The illegal logging industry is increasing, leaving victims with billions of dollars worth of missing timber worldwide. It is also the leading cause of deforestation, affecting the eco systems and natural habitats of endangered species in many countries across the globe. Spraying the logs, taking records of stocks, immediately applying timber dye to logs, building relationships with the mill – these are only preemptive measures a forester can take to ward off thieves and will not stop professionals from stealing lumber nor will it put them behind bars. En 1999 cuando fuerzas de EE.UU. regresaron a las Filipinas, por ejemplo, el número de "artistas de entretenimiento" registradas en la Ciudad de Angeles casi se duplicó, según un periódico del ejército de EE.UU. Una Directiva Presidencial emitida el 25 de febrero de 2003 por el Presidente estadounidense George W. Bush declaró: "La prostitución y las actividades relacionadas, que son inherentemente perjudiciales y deshumanizantes, contribuyen al fenómeno del tráfico de personas, así como al turismo del sexo, que es estimado en un negocio de mil millones de dólares por año mundialmente." En su Informe de Tráfico de Personas de 2002, el Departamento del Estado de EE.UU. reconoció la estrecha relación entre el tráfico y la prostitución, al reconocer la prostitución como una de las causas principales por la cual las mujeres son sometidas al tráfico de seres humanos.

The UNESCO-ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers adopted in 1966 has essentially served as a charter of rights for teachers worldwide. It is so significant that the 5th October, the anniversary of its signing, became the date chosen for World Teachers’ Day. Similarly, the Recommendation on the Status of Higher Education Teaching Personnel adopted in 1997 made further commitments regarding college and university faculty.

La Recomendación de la UNESCO-OIT relativa a la situación del personal docente adoptada en 1966 ha servido esencialmente como Carta de derechos de los docentes a nivel mundial. Ha desempeñado un papel tan significativo, que el 5 de octubre, fecha del aniversario de su firma, se ha convertido en la fecha escogida para celebrar el Día Mundial de los Docentes. Al mismo tiempo, la Recomendación sobre la situación del personal docente de la educación superior adoptada en 1997 consigna nuevos compromisos en materia de enseñanza superior y universitaria.
