Ayrıca diğer disiplin ve faaliyetler de (istihbarat, standardizasyon, hava savunma ve operasyonel planlama gibi) savunma planlamasını destekleyerek işi daha da karışık hale getirmiştir. Hepsinden birden sorumlu tek bir üst düzeyli organ olmadığı için, tüm bu aktörlerin çalışmalarının birbiriyle tutarlı ve uyumlu olmasını sağlayabilmek çok zordur. Bu çalışmaların bir çoğundan Kuzey Atlantik Konseyi sorumludur, fakat kuvvet ve nükleer planlamanın yanı sıra lojistik ve kaynak planlamasının bazı boyutları Savunma Planlama Komitesi veya Nükleer Planlama Grubu adına yürütülmektedir (bu grupların ikisi de entegre askeri yapının parçası olmayan Fransa hariç, tüm 25 NATO üyesi ile toplanır).
