The most traditional way to measure poverty is to study the Gross National Product (GNP) per capita in USD. In an international context, poverty is often measured on the basis of the people’s income level. When people have less than a dollar per day at their disposal, it is a case of extreme poverty. Wealth is however only one measurement of human poverty among others, and it does not necessarily consider human development.

Danang region is competitive and ranks well also in the national comparisons. The GDP growth rate has been approximately 11 per cent during 2006-2010, and 13 per cent in 2011. The growth rate is significantly higher than the average rate in Vietnam, which was about 5 per cent in 2012. In Danang growth is generated mainly by industry and services, such as tourism: Danang and its neighboring areas are important tourist attractions. Currently Danang has six industrial zones and one High-tech park, which provides different benefits for the investors. At the moment there are 75 foreign companies that have invested in Danang – and more investments, including from Finland, are needed.
