although there was some need for clarification early on. Some evidence of variability in the implementation of roles and responsibilities across UEY communities was noted, but those variations were within the parameters set out by the UEY Initiative.

Aucune différence n’a
été notée entre
les deux types de massage.

According to results, at the end of the study, 62 to 65% participants from both massage therapy groups claimed an improvement on physical condition in comparison with classic treatment whose 38% of participants claimed an improvement. Participants also outlined a bigger reduction of pain and reported to be more active whilst having less recourse to medicines. No difference was noticed between the two massages methods.

Le groupe sous placebo a connu un déclin des CD4 de 61. Aucune différence n’a

Six participants in the acemennan and five in the placebo group developed AIDS-defining illnesses. At 48 weeks, there was no significant difference between the groups with regards to the change or rate of decline of CD4 counts. Among AZT-treated participants, the median rates of CD4 decline over the first 16 weeks were 121 cells/year in the placebo group and 120 cells/year in the acemennan group. No changes in CD4 counts were measured for weeks 16 to 48 in the acemennan group. The placebo group saw the CD4s decline by 61. There was no difference between groups with regard to adverse events, p24 antigen or amount of virus. Twenty-four patients, 11 on placebo and 13 on acemennan, stopped taking the study therapy prematurely, none due to serious adverse reactions.

Aphids are phloem feeders that occasionally ingest xylem sap. The duration of xylem consumption by Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Hemiptera: Aphididae) was positively correlated with the level of dehydration of alate aphids of different ages after a period of starvation, supporting the hypothesis that aphids ingest xylem sap to replenish their water balance. However, the duration of xylem sap ingestion but not phloem sap consumption varied in unstarved alate adults of different ages. Furthermore, both alate and apterous aphids ingested xylem sap at the end of their life, when aphids were not dehydrated but when fecundity started to decrease. Fecundity was negatively correlated with the proportion of time spent ingesting xylem sap, and that over the entire reproductive life of alate and apterous aphids. The lower proportion of xylem ingested by apterous than by alate aphids during the first few days of adult life may be related to a higher symbiont density in apterous morphs. As previous studies have demonstrated a relationship between sucrose assimilation, which is directly influenced by fecundity and symbiont density, and osmoregulation, we suggest that xylem consumption may play a role in the osmoregulation of haemolymph of aphids.

C.A. Chopda and D.M. Barrett Journal of Food Processing and Preservation 25 (6), 411-430, 2007.Enzyme treatment of guava puree was optimized for yield and clarity by first determining the most effective concentration, then varying both incubation time and temperature. Application of Pectinex Ultra SP-L® was optimal using 700 ppm enzyme for 1.5 hr at 50°C. Clarified guava juice was clearer (89.6%) when prepared using ultrafiltration (MW cut-off 40-60kDa) rather than plate and frame filtration (82.8%); however the latter was higher in both soluble solids and ascorbic acid. Clarified guava juice powders were made using freeze-drying, spray drying and tunnel drying. The freeze-dried product had superior quality; however the spray-dried product was stable and may be more economical. Sensory panellists ranked the cloudy juice prepared from aseptic guava puree highest, and there were no significant differences between the juices from pasteurized, clear nectar, freeze-dried puree powder or juice powder.

été notée entre
le nombre quotidien de captures et les températures moyennes quotidiennes avant la chute des pétales dans les vergers.

Pyramid traps, 2.44 m and 3.66 m in height, were compared with standard-sized pyramid traps, 1.22 m in height, to assess the impact of trap architecture on captures of adult plum curculio, Conotrachelus nenuphar (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), in two apple (Malus spp.) orchards and a blueberry (Vaccinium spp.) planting. The effects of adjacent habitat (organic orchard versus wooded areas), abiotic factors, and phenological stages of apple also were assessed to determine whether these variables influenced trap captures. Standard-sized pyramidal traps captured significantly more adults than larger trap variants. In the apple orchards, most adults (70-80%) were captured before petal fall with the exception of blocks adjacent to the organic orchard (25%). Significantly more adults were captured along the edge of an apple orchard (managed using an integrated pest management strategy) facing an organic apple orchard (76%) than along the edge facing wooded areas (24%). There was a significant positive correlation between daily trap captures and mean daily temperatures before petal fall in apple orchards.
