Positioning at the metre level from pseudorange (code) observations without the use of a base station is made possible by using CACS precise satellite clock corrections.  They can be applied anywhere in the world to correct the users observed ranges and, when used along with CACS precise ephemerides, provide positioning accuracies in the 1 metre range depending on the user's receiver measurement noise and multipath. The advantage of using satellite clock corrections is that some of the station specific errors can be accounted for directly, as opposed to assuming commonality of errors between base station and remote site as with local DGPS. Since the satellite corrections are based on a network of accurately known reference points, some of the uncertainty associated with using control data from a single base station is effectively removed. The distributed stations of the CACS and the International GPS Service (IGS) networks also ensures common satellite visibility for any  user at any time of day, eliminating the problem of 'matching' observations between remote and reference sites sometimes associated with Local DGPS (LDGPS) operations.

The development of a heavily treed bog island situated in a wooded fen was investigated. Macrofossils indicate that the central part of the island has supported oligotrophic treed bog vegetation almost since the beginning of its formation. Three volcanic ash layers allow the reconstruction of the position of the wetland surface at different times. The treed island was initiated on a slight rise and it was always slightly higher than the surrounding fen, maintaining oligotrophic conditions above the fen level. On the treed island, the peat above the fen level is low in such nutrients as calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, but below the fen level the chemical characteristics of the peat are similar to those of the fen peat.

As of the beginning of the 19th century, a middle-class settled in New Carlisle. From a small farming village that had been founded by some hundred loyalists, the village rapidly became the Bonaventure County Seat and the administrative centre of Gaspésia, where some members of the elite came to settle. Its position as county administrative centre brought about the establishment of the administration of justice, which included lawyers, district attorneys, notaries and a sheriff. This middle-class bequeathed to New Carlisle a rich legacy of heritage buildings. These sumptuous houses, whose architecture is characteristic of the Victorian Era, can still be admired in the village. They stand witness to the predominance of New Carlisle during a certain era.

Harrison G. (Harry) Link, 75, died March 16. After working for the London Free Press, he managed CJGC Radio from 1928 to 1933. He then left for the now defunct London Advertiser. Broadcast News was the main source of news for radio stations in Canada but only a handful at this time were subscribing to BN's voice (audio) service. CFPL was one of those stations. C.N. Knight, manager, appointed Hugh Bremner as the station's first Radio Editor. Bremner had been news director since joining the company in 1954. This appointment signalled a new approach to news coverage by the station. As of September 1, Bremner would be responsible for the editorial stand of the station on various local issues. He would also present not only the factual side of local, national and international developments, but a further dimension of interpretation by personally commentating on the news of the day. The new editorials would be interspersed from time to time with his daily commentaries which now would air at 12:40 p.m. in addition to the established times of 8:15 a.m. and 6:10 a.m. on CFPL-AM and 12:40 and 6:10 p.m. on CFPL-FM. Gordon Whitehead was appointed news director as of September 1. He joined CFPL radio part-time while in his second year at U.W.O., becoming a full-time newscaster in 1964. He succeeded Hugh Bremner who was named Radio Editor. Scott Alexander joined CFPL from CKPT in Peterborough.
