I am also of the opinion that the trial judge properly rejected the appellants’ alternate submission to the effect that, because Vale was a person “liable to pay or entitled to redeem” the mortgages, he was entitled to the benefit of s-s. (1). The applicability of the exemption clause, as I noted above in the Litowitz appeal, does not depend on whether the person seeking to prepay is liable to pay or entitled to redeem the mortgage. While an individual may be personally liable for payment of a mortgage or may be entitled to redeem the mortgage, where the mortgage is executed by the corporate titleholder as mortgagor, the mortgage is and remains a “mortgage given by a corporation” and is thus outside the ambit of s-s. (1). Accordingly, an individual who may be liable to pay or entitled to redeem a mortgage, has no statutory right of prepayment.

Let’s look at the watches more closely. The first element they shared was technology. Omega decided to distill previous lessons by combining advanced protective features. The first was the Naiad crown. All three models had a non-screw-down crown that guaranteed water-resistance through accumulated pressure. The Speedmaster and the Railmaster were high-pressure-proof up to 200 ft and the Seamaster up to 660 ft. At that time the patent for a screw-down crown was held by none other than Rolex, which prompted Omega to follow a different path; a path that had its roots back in 1948. This ingenious idea leveraged the force of nature. The crown had an internal rubber sealing pack that sealed the movement and expanded as pressure increased. Contrary to popular belief, this was a safe system, sadly abandoned by Omega, and one that was highly effective, provided proper maintenance was provided.

In its Proposals for the Province of Saskatchewan, the Commission offered as its reasons for reconfiguring the province’s electoral districts into rural and urban categories the following statement: "The Commission is satisfied that despite the economic links between rural and urban populations, they nevertheless have differing communities of interest that must be addressed." It noted that in the eight existing "mixed rural-urban" electoral districts, four centred on Saskatoon and four on Regina, voting control is held by residents of the cities. The Commission’s opinion was influenced by the continued movement of population (as evidenced by the 2001 census) out of the country and into city and suburban locales.

On August 21, the CRTC gave CKOY a short-term licence renewal to August 31, 2024. In 2009, the Commission renewed CKOY-FM’s licence (then CHLT-FM) on a short-term basis because of the licensee’s non-compliance with respect to the broadcast of French-language vocal music. In 2013, CKOY’s licence was once again renewed on a short-term basis, this time for non-compliance with regard to the filing of annual returns and contributions to Canadian content development. The Commission reviewed the programming broadcast on CKOY during the week of 2 to 8 October 2016. According to the performance review for that week, the licensee broadcast only 48 hours of local programming. However, the licensee was subject to a condition of licence which stated that, in each broadcast week, it must broadcast at least 50 hours of local programming. Given the foregoing, the Commission found that the licensee was in non-compliance with its condition of licence with regard to local programming.

During this period, Canadians learned that economic policies must be focused on adjusting to change—even if that adjustment causes short-term difficulties. Towards the end of the 1980s, Canada was facing a number of economic and fiscal challenges. Government spending levels were near historic highs. Public debt levels were increasing rapidly, as was the percentage of that debt held by foreigners. Real estate prices were rising quickly, adding to fears that inflation was poised to accelerate. By the beginning of the 1990s, it was clear that we needed a framework of policies to help with adjustment, to bring down inflation, and to put our public finances in order.

Three general measures are proposed to address LCGE multiplication. First, individuals would no longer qualify for the LCGE in respect of capital gains that are realized, or that accrue, before the taxation year in which the individual turns 18 years old. Second, the LCGE would generally not apply to the extent that a taxable capital gain from the sale of the business is included in an individual’s split income. Third, subject to certain exceptions, gains that accrued during the time that property was held by a trust would no longer be eligible for the LCGE.

However, the Parliament has extended its authority in recent years and the use of this procedure is becoming increasingly less frequent.

During the time period when the investors suffered their losses due to unsuitable investments, the investment dealer was known as Blackmont Capital Corporation and was owned by another financial company. In 2009, the Macquarie Group bought Blackmont and subsequently renamed it Macquarie Private Wealth. Throughout the relevant time period, the investment dealer remained the same and the responsibility to compensate the customers rests with the investment dealer; merely the name changed. When Macquarie Group acquired the dealer, the existing obligations of the dealer remained unchanged.

The next step in the threshers development was the way in which chaff and kernels of grain were separated from the straw. By the mid 1860s, many Canadian manufacturers, such as P.T. Legaré (710572), were manufacturing variations on the Vibrator Separator, which had been patented by the Nichols and Shepard Company of Battle Creek, Michigan. In this device, the conveyor was replaced with a series of straw walkers or racks, connected to a concentric that caused them to shake back and forth longitudinally. Rows of wooden or metal fingers caught the threshed stalks as they left the cylinder, and each progressive sweep shook grain kernels out of the mass, transporting the straw to the rear of the machine. Manufacturers insisted that the shaking motion guaranteed the removal of more kernels than was possible with the conveyor method. The partially-cleaned grain fell to the bottom of the machine, where a re-feed conveyor brought it back to the front of the straw walkers for a second cleaning. The kernels fell through sieves mounted just above the pan or bottom of the machine, where a chute on the side could be opened to feed the grain into a bushel measure, then into grain sacks.

41. During Op JAGRA 12-14 June, there were at least three detainee events involving B Coy. The Board noted evidence of a fourth detainee, but it was assessed to be unreliable. It is useful to describe the first two, as a contrast to and to provide valuable context on the third, which was the ANP abuse incident under investigation. The fourth also becomes important as it confused the reporting of the incident. On 12 June 2006, at an ANP VCP in the village of , an Afghan individual was stopped, searched and questioned by both ANP and B Coy soldiers. He was found to have . To Comd B Coy this was a typical example of an ANP unit detaining an Afghan national . However, on completion of the initial screening, the ANP refused to arrest the individual. Comd B Coy was uncertain as to the cause of the refusal, but it left him with two options: set the individual free, or detain him and move him back to the Temporary Transfer Point at KAF. He chose the latter. [88] The suspect was detained by B Coy, was taken back to and was transferred the following day 13 June 2006 to KAF . This event was reported in the TFA Daily Situation Report (TFA DSR) to Comd CEFCOM. [89] TSO 321A paperwork was raised with signatures from the Acting Company Sergeant Major (CSM) and the Acting Coy 2 I/C. [90] This individual was processed as a CF detainee, with the associated reporting through KAF up to Comds TFA and CEFCOM. [91]
