. Si j'étais restée, j'aurais certainement été vendue à un inconnu, contre mon gré.

I was the third daughter among 12 sons. The first daughter died and the second went to live with my maternal grandmother, so from a very young age I had always helped my mother take care of my younger brothers. My mother was always submissive, and in addition to being a housewife she also took on additional work in the fields. I lived in a village with a lot of male chauvinism and if I had stayed, I most certainly would have been sold to a stranger against my will.

I don't know what's fair reporting; I have been out of politics for so many years. I would say that I saw the minister as being very engaged. I'm an early riser, especially when I'm on jet lag. I think we were all on jet lag, and I saw him at 6:30 in the morning and I saw him at midnight the same day, and he was working like crazy, like everybody. He participated in one of the so-called contact groups. There's one in which he did not participate, because the chair of the meeting decided to do some cherry-picking as to who would be in that room and did not invite Canada to be there, as it did not invite some of the other G-8 countries to be there.

The study found that cynicism has a significant presence and may be preventing many young people from voting – particularly older youth. Not only were 30- to 34-year-olds less likely to have been interested in the 2011 general election, but they are also more cynical than their younger peers. This suggests that cynicism is a trait that people acquire as they age. This is an important finding as most studies in the past have indicated that cynicism is not a significant cause of declining youth voter turnout. If cynicism – as this study suggests – is preventing young people from voting, then stakeholders and policymakers need to consider how to counter it.
