Self-employed businessmen are no longer covered by an occupational pension plan and may therefore withdraw assets from their pension fund in cash. However, this substantially reduces their retirement benefits. Similarly to making withdrawals from a pension fund, anyone who is self-employed can also opt for early withdrawal of funds from their retirement savings account 3a.

But we depreciated even more against Europe than we have against the U.S. dollar, at least until 1995. Since 1995 the Euro and European currencies have fallen quite dramatically, so some of that competitiveness has been lost. But what this graph suggests is that even as we were super competitive with the United States, we've been even more competitive with Europe. So on those grounds we would have expected faster increased trade with Europe at least on the export side. Our goods would look more attractive to Europeans as a consequence, so you'd expect to sell more.

Switzerland does not have a single language or culture, but has been described as a “Willensnation” – a nation formed by consensus. The roots of Swiss identity lie in a common history, in shared myths and in the freedoms of grassroots democracy and the federalist tradition. Thus Switzerland has evolved politically into a “special case” in Europe and the world. The different cultures, religions and social minorities which make up Switzerland have led to a unique political system, with the accent on federalism, a wide-ranging right to participate in the political process, a foreign policy based on neutrality and domestic politics based on consensus.

In the context of the EPC revision exercise (EPC 2000), R. 85a and b EPC 1973 were deleted to take account of the extended application of further processing under Art. 121 EPC (OJ SE 1/2003, 190). Since the entry into force of EPC 2000, the new Art. 121 EPC also applies to European patent applications pending at the time of the revised Convention's entry into force, provided the time limit for requesting further processing has not yet expired (Art. 1(5) AC decision, OJ SE 1/2007, 198). Since R. 85a EPC 1973 no longer applies in most cases, see the fifth edition for a detailed overview of the case law on this provision.

In this case the Court, at the close of the argument, was unanimous in thinking that the defendant, as surety, was discharged by the plaintiff's omission to insure. But some doubts were felt whether the discharge ought to be regarded as total, or only to the extent of the damage which could be shewn to have been sustained by the surety in respect of that omission. In support of the latter view, it was contended, on behalf of the plaintiff, that the present case is analogous to that of a creditor who has lost or given up to his debtor a security which he has in his hands, where the surety is held to be thereby discharged, because of the rule that a surety is entitled to the benefit of all the securities which the creditor has against the principal; not however in toto, but only to the extent of the security so lost or given up.

6. During the elaboration of the Convention, the CDCC and the CDMM came to the conclusion that it would be advisable to have a general treaty on the protection of the audiovisual heritage which could then be complemented by additional Protocols concerning "moving image material other than cinematographic works". Television productions were identified as constituting the largest sector of moving image material and thus being of highest relevance to the audiovisual heritage as defined by the Convention. At the same time, it was noted that television productions have a number of specificities, as compared with cinematographic works. Therefore, the CDCC and the CDMM requested the GT-PA to draft such an additional Protocol addressing the specific question of the protection of television productions. The major differences of television productions as compared to cinematographic works can be found in their quantity, the ephemeral nature of a large number of programmes, their modes of transmission and recording, their nearly universal availability, and their impact on individuals and society as a whole. Other additional Protocols might be drawn up in the future, once the CDCC or the CDMM identify other new developments in the field of audiovisual media which may require specific provisions for the protection of the audiovisual heritage.
