« Ce monde porte en lui le nouvel homme intérieur, celui qui a été créé par Dieu, afin que, façonné et conformé ici-bas, il est enfin enfanté pour un monde parfait et éternellement jeune. De même que la nature prépare l’embryon, tant qu’il est dans une vie obscure, pour une vie dans la lumière, de même en est-il des saints » .
All of this, however, has given someone the pretext of saying that Christianity advances by means of the fear of death. But this is terrible error. Christianity, as we have seen, is not here to increase the fear of death but to remove it; Christ came, says the Letter to the Hebrews, to “deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage” (Heb 2:15). Christianity does not advance because of the thought of our death but because of the thought of Christ’s death!

The Ancient Greeks disagreed about Castor’s origin. For some, he was the son of Leda and her husband Tyndareos. As he was conceived in the same night as Polydeuces, they were twins, although, as the son of Zeus, Polydeuces was a half-god, while Castor was merely a mortal. Others believed that, like his brother, Castor was also a son of Zeus. The end of the Dioscouroi (sons of Zeus) Castor und Polydeuces was initiated by a quarrel started by Castor with his cousin Idas. Idas slew the mortal Castor, following which Polydeuces killed Idas’ brother Lynceus. Zeus then intervened in the quarrel by destroying Idas with a bolt of lightning. The immortal Polydeuces mourned his brother so much that he asked his father Zeus to take away his immortality so that he could join his brother in the Land of the Dead. Moved by so much love, Zeus allowed his son to choose to either remain forever young and to live among the Gods, or to stay with Castor alternately one day in the underworld of Hades (the Land of the Dead) and one day in Olympus with the Gods, and to thereby become older, and to finally die. Without any hesitation, Polydeuces chose the second variant and, from then on, travelled between Olympus and Hades with his brother.

Elle lui raconta alors une légende du temps du roi Rodolphe II. La légende parlait de l’âme d’une aristocrate qui voulait être immortelle et éternellement jeune. Alors, elle but un élixir de jouvence.
Karel Čapek found his first job at the Chyše Chateau where he was hired by the Lažanský family as a private tutor in 1917. His stay at the chateau significantly inspired his literary work. Most of Čapek's works inspired by his stay at Chyše Chateau are based on the events experienced by him during his stay. One of his works, i.e. The Makropulos Case, is based on an old legend passed down by the castle servants from generation to generation. A friend of his, Jiří Foustka, joined Karel Čapek at the chateau to work as a private P.E. teacher – to put it in simple words. One day, they were walking through the castle and they discovered a third room in the tower. It was accessible only from the attic but it offered a remarkable view of the countryside. They asked the old count's permission to let them move into the room for a few days. One of the maids, Mařenka Havránková, who allegedly had taken a fancy to Karel Čapek who in turn returned her affection, asked him: "Are you not afraid of staying in the tower, Doctor?" As Čapek did not know why he should be afraid, the maid told him the legend of the chateau pertaining to the times of the reign of Emperor Rudolf II. The legend was about a ghost of a noble lady haunting the chateau. Yearning for eternal youth and immortality, she drank an elixir of eternal life. Naturally, she died of old age, yet her spirit could not find peace due to the magical elixir. Her spirit had been haunting the smaller chateau tower where she once lived.
