Boris Chouvellon goes against our certainties and reverses collectively admitted values by questioning the “non-human-friendly” quality of areas that have been dragged out of the great seaside or urban aestheticization plans.

Azar is a lebanese brasserie created by Marcel and Gregory Chiche as an alternative design version of the famous ‘Le comptoir Darna’ restaurant in Marrakech. Younes Duret won free reign over this project where his style reached excellence, representing the creative logic of the agency and its precision when it comes to concept. It was imagined as a journey through the senses in a fantasy medina city, this global design project being highly concerned with exploring perspective around traditional arabic patterns. Its process aims to make aesthetically ravishing and fluid this vision of a modern middle-eastern decor, trendy, international and far from folkloric stereotypes.

For consumers surveyed, the house no longer appears as a protective cocoon, closed in upon itself. It is a “place of openness and friendliness” where it is deemed appropriate “to show others that it has taste.” The living room has become a favorite piece that expresses the aesthetic concern while the kitchen in turn becomes a space of conviviality. In decoration concerning style, 50% of those interviewed opt for a “clean-kind of style.” And 46% identify with the “country” style. The so-called design styles (28%), charm (27%), loft (17%) which lags behind. Priority has been given to the values of simplicity, naturalness, authenticity complemented by the desire for a return to basics. The study identified three types of ‘Deco-maniacs’ meaning Addicts (16% of the population) who spend a lot of time and money perfecting their homes, Coached (26%) concerned with aestheticism and ask for both advice and support, the Makers (26%) that focus on creativity and resourcefulness to invent their own decorative items.

Dans des domaines différents, les mécanismes physiques pour l'un, l'anatomie pour l'autre, nous sommes dans le même registre photographique avec une rigueur extrême de composition d'images. We have never held a show in the gallery with scientific overtones, so we are more than pleased to exhibit the photography of both Berenice Abbott and Raphaël Dallaporta. Although both working in different areas - fundamental physical mechanisms for one and anatomical parts for the other - the rigorous composition of each image puts both photographers on the same creative line of expression. Beyond their obvious visual force and affect, both bodies of work explore in a forthright manner a new universe, devoid of anecdotes and aestheticism. Thanks to their varying levels of interpretation, these photographs require us to ask questions about our own understanding of the world around us.

To return to Agamben’s main argument, what he is saying is not that contemporary spaces are equivalent to German Nazi camps, but that the logic of the camp tends to be spread throughout society as a whole. The emergence of camps only signals that the state of exception has become the norm and that it transforms society into an unbounded and dislocated biopolitical place. Therefore the exception explains, in the manner of a vicious circle, both the general situation and the state of exception itself. “What happened in the camps so exceeds the juridical concept of crime”, says Agamben, “that the specific juridico-political structure in which those events took place is omitted from consideration.” [8] He concludes that the camp is not merely historic fact and a phenomenon developed in 1896 by the Spanish in Cuba. The Nazi camp is the most extreme situation that one can imagine (or perhaps cannot), but Agamben begins his investigation in reverse order by asking what juridical structure could have allowed such events to take place.

From the very start, we refused to take market defined excellence criteria into account, not willing to select artists regarding their commercial success – or failure. Our selection process found its logic in a prior methodological research on the theoretical stakes of the time, giving the considered matters their sense.
