This despite the fact that a Hungarian Republic had been proclaimed in October 1989. It would take more than two years for the last soldier donning the red Soviet star to leave the country for good.

This is a world in which experience is increasingly mediated by technology and representation. Consider, for example, the 2004 funeral of Pope John Paul II. Here, instead of focusing on the event itself, the crowd became a sea of uplifted mobile phones, snapping images of the event and then rapidly transmitting them to loved ones. We have become the journalists and photographers of our own world, experiencing things through the lens of a camera instead of through our own eyes. When arriving at a place or experiencing an event, it is more important to capture it and forget about it than to experience it and analyze it. We have come to trust media as though it is the real thing: a photograph is as good as a view, and a snapshot of the pope viewed on the screen of a cell phone is as good as seeing the man in the flesh. The image, or the spectacle, is the same thing as reality-why shouldn't we believe the picture on the hotel brochure, the vista on the postcard, the map in the government archives, or the story in the history textbook?

But until you actually see the work in the flesh and experience it, it’s a completely different sensation and a completely different feeling. Today, 15 years on, the play is still considered a milestone in children’s theatre in India. Over the last two decades, Meena has conducted various puppetry shows and workshops around the world, representing India in France, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Estonia, Germany and Canada among other countries. Using puppetry as a tool, she has imparted knowledge on language education as well as social and environmental topics for children as well as the differently abled. The "Researchers in school" activity offers upper secondary school students the opportunity to meet researchers in their classes. The researchers will tell them about their work, their passions and their backgrounds. This does not involve scientific presentations, but is an opportunity for students to meet researchers "in real life" and ask them all sorts of questions regarding science that they might have. They also find out about research that is done in Luxembourg. This initiative is organised by the National Research Fund.

The testing of factual knowledge can be done by a robot. Volvo already does this: they put candidates behind a touchscreen that is in a car. They must then answer various questions. A technical specialist, for example, should be able to distinguish among various components of an automobile engine on the screen. Determining whether a candidate has the potential to fit company values is more of a task for human recruiters though, as only they are capable of sifting through the hidden layers and emotions during an interview. As you can see, the new recruitment method not a case of either/or, but combines both new technology and a person's good old commonsense.

Both were written well enough to satisfy historians and to occasion the author’s appearance on the History Channel as a ‘talking head,’ but he writes, essentially, for soldiers. His books sell very well to the broader public, but he is not a populist, not a Bernard Cornwell or C.S Forrester in sandals. His protagonists are not unlikely heroes or role models; they are the flesh and blood products of war, violence and calamity. Soldiers can’t aspire to be Pressfield characters, for they already are that.

'International Studies' is a subject taught in our school. Young people today show a tremendous interest in what's happening in the world around them but usually there is a lack of time to discuss current events thoroughly in the context of the traditional curriculum. We have created the opportunity to do that and at the same time we will work on-line on selected topics with our friends at John Jay High School in New York. In March 2004 we will visit New York to finally meet the American students in 3D!

John Oliver feels that the future rests on people with two legs and that enthusiasm which comes from people is the most catching.
