The proceedings were enlivened by musical selections. At the end of two hours the arrival of police brought an end to the extempore programme and put to flight most of the mischief-makers. A number were apprehended, including the appellants.

It was found shortly afterwards on the site of the little temple, an undisputed fact, hence the decision was taken to install the image in that place. However, a local from Pasaia, not happy with the presumed divine decision and convinced that the people of Lezo had usurped the image, decided to remove it in the middle of the night and take it to the nearby Pasai Donibane. However, immediately upon arrival, another presumed divine miracle occurred in the shape of a tremendous storm, highly unusual for the place and date. Given that the neighbour was obliged to stay where he was, right in the middle of the storm, he saw how the box opened and the Christ headed back towards Lezo. It was therefore returned to its place of origin, putting an end to the storm.

In the 16th century, Johannes Waser rose to the top of the military and political hierarchy in Switzerland. Through his wife, Margareta Zelger, a substantial building in Stans known as the Rosenburg came into his possession. Having become a person of consequence, Waser converted the Rosenburg into a representative palais. He paid special attention to the accoutrements of his renaissance-style reception chamber, in which only the costliest materials were used for the wall panelling, the coffered ceiling, the sideboard, the tiled stove, and the floor tiling. The chamber sent a clear message to his visitors: Look at me, I’m a person of consequence!

It all started with the dream and the love of a mother, Viviane Nguyen, who was trying to find an allergy free cake for the first birthday of her son. Since the age of 10 months, he was diagnosed with multiple severe food allergies, considerably limiting what he can eat. To avoid any anaphylactic reactions, the cake would have to be dairy free, eggs fee, nuts free, gluten free, soy free, etc. After contacting all the bakeries in Montreal, our dear mother realizes that none of them could make this cake. Despite the difficulties encountered, she did not abandon the idea and started doing a lot of research. Her son’s birthday will not be deprived of a cake. In time, she was able to bake by herself allergy free cakes, cupcakes and desserts that tasted great. She then reached her goal: a big allergy free cupcake for her son’s first birthday. He was able to enjoy his first cake happily and without any worries.

Soon after the Maple Leaf began flying, however, Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson grew concerned that the flags on federal government buildings seemed to be fading unequally and were not the same shade of red. An effort led by the Department of National Defence to ensure all Canadian flags met the same standards became an issue of national importance, with many government departments getting involved in the project. National Research Council scientists stepped in to help make sure the Maple Leaf looked its best.

Three years passed, and on the night of December 23, 1301, the moon shone menacingly and coldly. Master Keizan saw the figure of Gasan in deep zazen through the moonlight and read his mind. He put his hand next to Gasan’s ear and snapped his fingers. Though the sound was barely audible, to Gasan it sounded like a loud crash which wiped away all of the doubts he had had for three years.

She joined the Religieuses Hospitalières de Saint-Joseph at Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal in 1846 and took her vows in 1848. She accompanied Mother Pagé during their first visit with Mgr Rogers, at the lazaret in Tracadie. It was then that the sick and the population clamored for the nuns, calling them «the holy sisters».  Co-founder of the Lazaret in Tracadie, NB, in 1868, she stayed until 1870. From 1874 to 1880, she accepted the position of superior in St-Basile in Madawaska, that is, one year after its foundation which was still unstable, poor and in a very precarious situation.  From 1884 to 1888, she returned to Arthabaska for a third foundation and she became the Mother Pagé’s assistant.   As with the other foundations, there were numerous difficulties and ordeals.   She left us with a lasting memory of a life marked by loyalty and great love.

The proposal was made creating different interventions on the organizational structure and the imaginary that exists about the neighborhood. The initiative was welcome with enthusiasm by the association members and many of the children they work with for over 10 years now. Also the project was executed in just 4 days, with the collaboration of several volunteers (the collective Morulas, Chris and Luís) that participated in this experience generating complicities. Besides that, the project converted a group of children in the main characters of a neighborhood that as result of it, can offer social inclusion and acceptance through the implementation of small scale interventions that improve their excluded surroundings. This last part is considered as one of the several reasons for the absence of public infrastructure.

Salvador Bofill Doménech, brother of the captain and shipowner Benet Bofill Doménech, arrived at the Cuban city of Matanzas from Lloret de Mar in search of his own fortune. There, in the central street of Calle Magdalena, next to Palacio de Junco, he had his own tailor’s shop and met young Leonor, whom I married in 1858. Leonor was a descendant of the illustrious Delamar family, of Creole linage and French ancestors who had arrived in America in the early Eighteenth Century. The Delamars were part of the commercial and industrial elite who considered themselves of Indian nobility and founders of the island.

According to an old legend, a tired butcher's apprentice fell asleep in the shade of a hazel shrub in the slope of Chlum Hill a long time ago. When he woke up, he saw a small statue of the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus in the middle of the hazel shrub and he took it home with him. When he wanted to look at the statuette the next day, he could not find it anywhere. After searching for hours, the apprentice returned to the hazel shrub where he found the statuette again. The apprentice believed it was a sign from God; he left the statuette in the shrub, and built a wooden shelter over it to protect the statuette in bad weather. The statuette was soon forgotten afterwards. In the late 13th century, it was re-discovered by a cooper's apprentice, before whom the Virgin Mary appeared when he lost his way. She showed him the way home after he had promised to repent his sins. This time, a wooden chapel was built around the statuette, to which many pilgrims came.

As an ambitious and able student, he was not particularly satisfied with Aleksander Brachocki's composition classes, so he made a risky decision to attend private lessons taught by Kazimierz Sikorski, which might have been seen as a sign of disloyalty. In 1936-37 Michal Spisak made regular trips to Warsaw to meet professor Sikorski, who he saw as the real composition tutor throughout his studies. Having graduated from the Conservatoire, with first-class honours and a distinction, he was awarded a Silesian Musical Society scholarship to a composition course in Paris. This event has greatly influenced his entire life - leaving Poland in 1937, he probably did not realise that France would become his second homeland, a country in which he would spend the rest of his life.

The discovery begins at the Maritime Museum, which together with the Tourist Office, is the welcome point to the Open Museum of Lloret. All sorts of useful information on the Open Museum are available here. The building in which the museum is housed is known as Can Garriga, since it once belonged to the Garriga family. The origins of this house are directly related to the historical period of maritime trading with the Americas in the 19th century. Enric Garriga i Mataró, a native of Lloret de Mar, headed to Cuba in 1860. There he amassed a great fortune and commissioned the architect Fèlix de Azúa to build his new residence in Lloret. Fèlix de Azúa became a well-known architect throughout Spain thanks to his participation in the remodelling of Plaça d’Espanya in Barcelona in preparation for the 1929 World’s Fair. The Town Hall was also built in 1872. The superb location of this building on Passeig Verdaguer and the fact that it was built during such an important historical period for the town make it the ideal gateway to the Open Museum of Lloret.

Despite the endeavours of the city of Schaffhausen to gain a foothold on the left bank of the Rhine through the acquisition of Laufen Castle, Hans Wilhelm von Fulach finally sold the property together with the surrounding bailiwicks of Uhwiesen and Dachsen to the city of Zurich in 1544. Zurich thus gained a welcome territorial expansion to the north and had the acquisition converted into a residence for its chief bailiff shortly thereafter. It remained unchanged in this building condition for almost three centuries and the ring wall with its striking rectangular gate tower constructed at that time remains largely in existence to this day. Domination of the countryside by the city through the bailiwicks was consolidated and still produced feudalistic traits until the end of the 18th century. This came to an abrupt end with Napoleon’s invasion in 1798. The bailiwicks were deprived of their status and the castle, like many others, remained uninhabited for some years. It was only from 1804 that the castle was occupied again by a series of tenants. One of these was the landscape painter Ludwig Bleuer, who relocated his school of painting to the castle in 1833, with the intention of creating a great work above the Rhine. In 1845, he was able to purchase the castle. Around 100 years later, in 1941, the Canton of Zurich acquired the castle from his descendants. It was put to use as a youth hostel which opened officially in 1946.

Polanyi was born in Germany, in 1929, to a family of Hungarian intellectuals. His father was a professor of chemistry who was powerfully drawn to philosophy, and his uncle was an economist critical of market capitalism. The family moved to Britain in 1933. In late 1940, when he was eleven, Polanyi was one of a group of fifty British children (hosted by the University of Toronto) sent to Canada to avoid German bombs. He spent three years at University of Toronto Schools (UTS), and then returned to wartime Britain and the venerable Manchester Grammar School. He was educated at the University of Manchester and did research at Princeton, but has taught at the University of Toronto since 1956.

In 1633, he married a beautiful patrician, Saskia van Uylenburgh, whom he often drew. Several births were followed by funerals. Only one son, Titus, survived. Fortunate and wooed, Rembrandt purchased a grand residence. Rembrandt became extravagant and was even involved in a lawsuit and accused of squandering the heritage of Saskia. The health of his tubercular spouse strongly declined and she died in 1642, only thirty years old. During her disease, Rembrandt painted his greatest canvass, wrongly entitled “The Night Watch”.
