Over the last ten years domain names, as addressing elements on the internet, have become increasingly important for the economy. It has therefore become essential to formalise the management of domain names in the ".ch" zone at decree level. This is the essential aim of the revision of the Decree on Addressing Resources in the Telecommunications Sector (Verordnung über die Adressierungselemente im Fernmeldebereich – AEFV). At the request of the sectors involved, assignment of domain names in Switzerland will continue to be carried out by a single provider (Switch). The competitive model proposed in a preliminary draft has been abandoned.

So, primary school teacher and father of four Christian Burgener from Hettlingen is doing his bit. “In the mid 1980s, my father wanted to mount solar modules on the roof in St. Germain, a small village in Valais,” recalls Christian. It was the first attempt in the region and the planned solar modules triggered a heated debate. “Also, the modules were still so expensive that he ultimately gave up. Since then I have always been fascinated by the subject of photovoltaics.”

So we took a great risk in visiting North Uganda. On one evening we heard the gunfire of child soldiers who were trying to overrun our hotel, but then decided not to do so in the end. That was the first time I myself was confronted with child soldiers who were being compelled to attack and commit murder. Those children were all victims, I had to help them (see box ‘Joseph Kony’).

Trechsel provided an overview of Internet voting in Europe. He pointed out that a number of countries considered but decided against implementing Internet voting (i.e. France [legal complications], the Netherlands [technological distrust] and Lithuania [political hurdles]). Switzerland and Estonia are at present the two main countries that have managed to successfully develop Internet voting programs. Trechsel reported that civil society groups in Switzerland were initially opposed to the introduction of Internet voting whereas such groups in Estonia were actually trying to push electronic voting forward. Also, Switzerland relies on traditional identification (ID) methods while Estonia has instituted digital ID. Trechsel suggested these commonalities and differences highlight that while there may be some important preconditions that appear to be necessary, much is context dependent.

The world championship circus has arrived back in Europe after the overseas triple header where Thomas Lüthi (carXpert Interwetten) managed to climb onto the podium three times (two second positions in Qatar and USA, third position in Argentina). The opening day of the first European round was more difficult for the currently second man of the provisional Moto2 World Championship classification. The first free practice session this morning was wet and teams only had one session this afternoon to work on their bikes. Lüthi has not yet found the correct recipe in Andalusia. Iker Lecuona (Garage Plus Interwetten), who ended up withdrawing from the Grand Prix in Texas, is in a better form as he has finally been able to start his physical programme again after a long break to which he was forced following his crash in the IRTA test here in Jerez in early March. Finally, Jesko Raffin (Garage Plus Interwetten) had a very difficult day due to a severe cold. Frédéric Corminboeuf, the boss of the double Swiss structure, wraps up the day in the following words: “Tom encountered the same problems as in testing. He doesn’t have a good feeling with the front. We have to find a solution so he can be more relaxed and push the way he likes. We had a nice surprise from Iker Lecuona today. He is only losing 1,3 seconds compared to the best time. But we cannot speak too soon because after the second session Iker was feeling his shoulder and his arm. Jesko Raffin is unfortunately very ill, he has a bad flu, cough and he is out of force so we cannot judge his performance today. We will do what we can for him to feel better on Saturday and Sunday.”

About a fourth of the babies had no other colors than white and black. They were anerythristic. The same outcome in the litters of 2000 and 2001. A few of the babies turned out to become yellow/black.

Even though as a result of these actions the Government of Zambia dropped its appeal, R.M. is yet to receive her compensation and, to date, no action has been taken to arrest or prosecute Mr. Hakasenke. Mr. Hakasenke is no longer teaching at the school and has gone into hiding although he continued to collect his salary for over a year after the judgment and may still be getting paid by the government. The previous Minister of Education, in response to the many letters received from Equality Now’s Women’s Action Network members, sought the help of TAAAC and Equality Now in drafting guidelines to prevent and better address sexual abuse in schools. The current Minister has not yet demonstrated the same commitment to this issue.
