Babak’s elderly parents, who remain in Iran, were early sources of inspiration for his drive to serve people in need. “My father is a very quiet person,” he says. “Often he would come home late from his job as a food specialist because he was listening to someone in his office talking about their problems. He has a big family—four brothers, three sisters and a lot of nephews and nieces—and he was the one they confided in about marriage, work or career issues.”

As our plane was approaching Kanjirsuk, a quick look through the window confirmed that we were in untamed lands. Everywhere we looked we saw cloudy and grey horizons, as well as long rocky silhouettes, devoid of any vegetation. Flying along the Ungava Bay, we had a glimpse of what would be our home for the next week. Our house was nestled at the outlet of Payne River. My first thought was that this small village seemed as though it had sprouted from nothing, as if it had just appeared in this spot, without any apparent reason.

And it just so happens two thirds of the sites we need are on Canadian soil. The Canadian government, as has been told to me, said well we’ve just finished building two of our own, we don’t have any money left, if you want to build it we will let you have access to the land but you pay for it. So the Americans essentially paid for this which at the time was the largest engineering project in the world. So it was a very challenging and amazing engineering feat to get all this equipment there and build it as quickly as they did.

No champagne bottles uncorked not make any hasty call. Simply, planted a tree. He had just announced that he had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the first African woman to get. That tulip tree of Gabon Gardens Decorating hotel Outspan the Nyeri, in Kenya, is the best tribute to a unique woman, Wangari Maathai. The last day 1, Kenyan prompting the planting 30 million trees, courage mother nature, would have turned 73 years. A cancer took her in 2011, unfortunately for a continent that needs of women like her, of his tenacity and determination, to try to illuminate a more just society. Maathai was one of Africa in which I, that one day, I hope, darken the satrapies of corrupt leaders, venal leaders that ruin one generation after another.

For years, the Alps served as an outlet for Sir Leslie Stephen, from where he could draw a source of constantly renewed energy that allowed him to face the difficulties of life. Tirelessly he climbed the most daunting and majestic peaks of the Swiss Alps. In the later years of life, Leslie had to content himself with gazing upon the high mounts that he had once conquered. He devoted his time to his daughter, Virginia Woolf, who became one of the most famous authors of the early twentieth century.

Having contact information for your child’s friends, roommate(s), neighbours and co-workers. As a parent, knowing who your child is friends with, where these friends live and how to contact them is vitally important. For example, your child may be headed off to university to live on their own for the first time — if they were to disappear, when would you learn of it? How would you learn of it? What actions could you take? By taking the time to consider these questions you can think about ways to ensure you have the information you need when it matters most. Having contact information for those around your child, such as immediate neighbours, dorm mates, roommates etc. may prove to be invaluable. Also, make sure to remind your son or daughter about providing your name and number as an emergency contact to friends, roommate(s), neighbours and co-workers should something go wrong.

Mahama Johnson Traoré, the filmmaker from Mali, was a friend of my family. He used to come visit us often. My father died when I was 14 years old and I wanted to work to support my brothers and sisters and my mother, who had no income. I thought about cinema and I turned to Johnson for advice. That's how I began. I was quickly promoted to head electrician then I was able to work with Tavernier and Truffaut when they came to Africa. I learned on the job. After working as head electrician, I became director of photography and then I moved into directing. In my mind, my main trade is still director of photography.

During the summer of 1996, Goodchild appeared at scheduled interpretive programs at Hattie Cove in the northwest corner of the vast park, which takes in nearly 2000 square kilometres of undisturbed boreal forest. "Proddy's such an eloquent speaker," says Wawia. "I'd be amazed because we'd never rehearse anything for these sessions. I'd just say 'Talk about whatever you want, or 'Why don't you bring something you own and use it as a lesson? That's all I'd have to say. He'd come and everything would just flow. The people were so respectful of him, had such a keen interest. They'd ask really good questions."

Olivier le Bussy argues that the loosening up of Poland "if it continues, would be a relief for Europeans who are counting on the energy part of the agreement [an EU-Russia partnership] to guarantee the reliability of gas and oil supply to the 27. Before this change of direction, Poland's position is as follows: there is no question of the EU opening discussions with Russia as long as Moscow maintains an embargo on Polish meat and vegetables. Russia justifies this embargo with hygiene issues and Poland believes Russia's motivation is political. There is no lack of conflict between the two neighbours: the possibility of Poland's participation in the American anti-missile shield makes Moscow's hair stand up on end while the Poles (among others) are firmly opposed to the oil pipeline which would link Germany and Russia by passing under the Baltic Sea."

Well I got a letter from Ken Lochhead suggesting that I should come to Emma Lake even though I wasn’t a practising artist at the time, but I should come up as an art educator to see what was happening at Emma Lake. And this particular year they had invited Clement Greenberg as the guest artist from New York. So I went along with some big pieces of masonite, and my little box of oil paints and my little brushes, and I hadn’t any idea of what to do when I got there. But Clement Greenberg gave lectures continually, all day long, everyday and all evening too mostly. It was more than I could take in. My head was just bursting with trying to absorb all this new information about what was happening in art today. And he was talking to me…he came and sat down with me and my work, and he said, oh you’ve got to get pigment in the background, you’ve got to get…I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about. But he said, you’ve got to take yourself seriously. If you want to be an artist, that’s what you have to do, otherwise you’re a Sunday painter. So it was something I took home with me and I thought about it a lot. Because after that two weeks there, I felt quite differently about art and making art, and I felt that I wanted to find out what I could say. I hadn’t a clue what I could say.

Management of ammonia (NH3) is a multi-faceted issue for farmers. It is simultaneously a toxicant that can affect farm-worker and animal health, volatile plant nutrient that is expensive to replace if lost, and a potential contributor to environmental degradation. The environmental implications have important spatial and temporal dimensions, beyond the farm. This paper describes a model development to estimate NH3 emissions from poultry (broiler, layer and turkey) production in 2780 mapping units across Canada on a monthly time scale. It includes estimates of daily emission peaks within critical months. The results will contribute to estimates of haze and atmospheric aerosol production, as well as contriubutions to other potential impacts such as eutrophication of sensitive ecosystems. The model is based on a detailed survey of farm practices. Emissions vary strongly throughout the year, and in many regions there are peak emissions in early spring and late fall, associated with landspreading of manure. There are also markedly different nitrogen excretion rates among regions, and these and bird populations are the key factors controlling emissions. On average, 22% of excreted uric acid or ammoniacal N is emitted from barns, 2% from storage and 26% from landspreading, resulting in a total loss of 50%.

"There was the idea of lighting the facades so that it would bring ambient light to the street, and compensate for the lack of lighting levels on McGill," Arpin explains. The result not only defines the street's character, it attracts public interest. In fact, Arpin recalls spotting a couple enjoying a glass of wine in the evening at Square des Frères-Charon, the park just across Customs House. "We thought they came from the restaurant in front, but they came from a condo on the third floor," he says. "That means that you at least fulfilled one of the goals, which is to create pleasant places at night."
