Radar Imaging for Non-Cooperative Target Recognition (NCTR) research will assist in the positive identification of hostile, friendly or neutral aircraft, which is crucial to situation awareness, and will help dictate the appropriate response in combat and crisis situations. An envisioned operational NCTR system will be based on matching the detected signature of an unknown target against a synthetically generated signature database. In support of this development, scientists of the Surface Radar Section are involved in work to generate simulated radar images of typical aircraft and verify them with High Range Resolution Radar data obtained from the RADSYS radar mobile and other data.
