The hatchery closed its doors in 1914 due to political conflicts and a general attitude of indifference towards the project. This climate of dissension, along with the start of the First World War brought about the closing of this piscicultural station, which was concluded in February. The building was sold to the W.S. Loggie Company of Shippagan, who moved it to the back of their store and used it as a warehouse. The building went to different owners and was finally sold to the Village Historique Acadien, then moved to the Village.

But too much distance can make them seen inhuman or indifferent to what others are experiencing. They may even go as far as detaching or creating a protective shield against their OWN emotion. And, when we protect ourselves from feeling or displaying emotion, we can also make it a lot more difficult to feel the emotion of others.

Beyond the human tragedy, the Rohingya question must be seen in the context of the current transition in Myanmar: democratization, following the establishment of civilian rule in 2011, power struggles, nation building and the need to transcend ethnic diversity. More broadly, the hostility against Rohingyas echoes a fear of Islam throughout the region.

Quand on se rend compte qu'il y a de l'

I won't attempt to list all the consequences of family breakup since there have been reports by the Canadian Refugee Council as well as the Table de concertation des organismes au service des personnes réfugiées et immigrantes, the TCRI. I think these reports are quite clear about the consequences. Considering the indifference to these consequences and the fact that the affected group is a minority, one may be tempted to conclude that francophones are perhaps not welcome.

“We should be concerned that so many Canadians do not feel included. That our greatest achievement – our diversity – is being challenged. It’s being challenged by the recent rise in hate messaging and violence. It’s being challenged by a persistent xenophobic discourse cloaked in “Canadian values.” It’s being challenged by increasing intolerance and bigotry – acts of anti-Semitism, islamophobia, racism and misogyny. We must be continually mindful of history and the lessons it has taught us, because history is littered with subtle examples when indifference and intolerance – the lifeblood of hate – led to devastating consequences.”

42 In the face of all of these facts, the Court of Appeal passed harsh judgment on the conduct of the Barreau, particularly in respect of its lack of diligence and its slowness to act, not to say its lack of action, in its handling of McCullock‑Finney’s complaints. In my view, that judgment was justified. The attitude exhibited by the Barreau, in a clearly urgent situation in which a practising lawyer represented a real danger to the public, was one of such negligence and indifference that it cannot claim the immunity conferred by s. 193. The very serious carelessness it displayed amounts to bad faith, and it is liable for the results. This is apparent on a quick review of all the facts.

Despite substantial progress towards recognition of equal rights both internationally and in countries around the world, LGBT people are subject to persistent human rights violations because of their actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity. Throughout the world, LGBT people experience harassment, humiliation, verbal and physical abuse. More than 80 countries still maintain laws that make same-sex consensual sexual relationships between adults a criminal offence, and in at least 7 countries the maximum penalty is death. In other countries, vaguely-worded and sweeping laws against public scandals or indecent behaviour are used to penalise people whose only crime is looking, dressing, or behaving differently from rigidly enforced social norms.

Third, because the ambiguous policies of the U.S. – a result of infighting within the Administration--that facilitated the perpetration of the coup, were slowly defined in a direction contrary to the interests of the usurpers. If the initial rejection of the coup was declared by Obama, then dimmed and warmed by his former (and current?) rival, the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the unmistakably retrograde character of Micheletti and his cronies and the unending succession of outbursts and insults directed at Obama whenever the White House expressed some criticism of the Tegucigalpa regime and its manifest incapacity to construct a social base, slowly tilted the balance against the positions taken by the Secretary of State and created an increasing antagonism towards the coup.

L'

She provides examples of just how easy it is to die, in too many places. Such casual indifference to the value of life is then linked to the casual indifference with which Canadian teachers’ pension plans invest money in companies producing the armaments that use children to kill children elsewhere in the world. To live, even with guilt, is the more difficult path for any survivor. For us to find ourselves cast in the role of villain or perpetrator in these circumstances is perhaps even more difficult to accept. Sam drives this point home with a multiplicity of examples of how responsibility for war and violence in the 21st Century is reflected in the mirror of our daily lives, and how inadequate our responses to the needs of others, in reality, turns out to be.

For example, poor family management (where discipline is lax or too punitive, parents provide ineffective supervision, or few limits on aggressive behaviour) has been identified as a risk factor for bullying and other delinquent actions (Craig, Peters & Konarski, 1998; Farrington, 1998; Hawkins et al., 1998; Olweus, 1993). Not surprisingly, research shows that in order for an intervention to be successful change must occur at multiple levels (Pepler, Craig, Ziegler & Charach, 1994; Pepler & Craig 2000; Finnish Centre for Health Promotion; Hawkins et al, 1998; NAAG, 2000; Shaw, 2001). Targeting risk factors at different levels allows practitioners to get to the root of the bullying problem, which is often embedded in community or societal values, beliefs, and norms.

At the beginning of May three people were killed during protests against the Greek austerity measures. With reference to these deaths and several bomb attacks Nikos Paraskevopoulos voices concern about the rise in violence in the leftist daily Eleftherotypia: "The deregulation of the welfare state has led to people dying at hospitals as a result of inadequate treatment, and the collapse of social cohesion is causing an overlapping of the fringes of society with organised crime which multiplies the cases of violence. ... Perhaps someone out there is asking whether there is leeway for the institutional acceptance of certain murders that don't negate the value of life. The answer can only be 'yes' if the death of one person saves the person who is in danger. ... These cases, which are the absolute exception, testify to respect rather than indifference towards life. The countless people who stood in awe before the burnt-out bank which was the site of the martyrdom of three people were confronted with this picture of the supposedly better murderous act, insidious and covered up by society. ... Violence promotes more violence, and killing too: this is a lesson history has taught us."
