SCREAM has been a light in the dark for those who once kept abuse and violence hidden, leading them to speak out against child labour taking place just a few steps from their school. It has given them a voice to denounce hidden acts of violence. It has changed the classroom dynamics and put an end to bullying and discrimination."

26 On September 18, the foreman announced the verdict.  The trial judge, court registrar and both counsel heard “not guilty as charged”.  The Crown asked that the jury be polled.  The court registrar did not repeat the verdict to the jurors, but instead asked each juror if they agreed or disagreed with the verdict as announced.  This polling method was prescribed by a court practice manual.  All of the jurors stated that they agreed.  The court recorded a verdict of “not guilty”, and discharged the jury.  The jury exited the courtroom.  Shortly thereafter the appellant was discharged and court was adjourned at 2:55 p.m.

A glance at the map indicates that Luxembourgers live between France and Germany, on the border between the Romanic and Germanic worlds. This situation has clearly influenced the history of their country, an eventful and turbulent history which determined today’s reality (here as elsewhere). The period when they were a fortress under the control of a succession of foreign powers has endowed Luxembourgers with an astonishing adaptability and a fierce determination to maintain their independence. They have also carried over from those times a practical sense - one could even call it common sense - which has led them into an almost obsessive search for consensus.

Translational science refers to research performed in a lab, or fundamental research, which is then applied to patients in a clinical setting. It is unquestionably important to moving forward in the fight against cancer. This type of research requires collaborations between researchers in different fields and settings as exemplified by many of our researchers. In one such example, Dr Borden, a fundamental researcher at IRIC, collaborated with Dr. Assouline, a clinician from the JGH to produce results that spanned their fields. Dr. Borden published her findings on a protein, eIF4E, that controls cellular transcription and how it’s dysregulation impacts cancers such as acute myeloid lymphoma. They found that the protein in question could be a treatment target and used BCLQ samples to test inhibitors of this protein such as ribavarin which lead to a Phase I trial. BCLQ samples were again used to test ribavirin resistance which had been found in the initial trial. This led to a Phase II trial that brought together multiple hospitals using ribavirin and another drug, vismodegib. This collaboration not only brought results from the bench to the clinic, it also resulted in clinical trials and multiple successful publications in prestigious journals.

The Benedictine abbey of Seckau with its cathedral is one of the symbols of Styria. The monastery was established as an Augustinian canonical church and was the seat of the bishop and of the diocese. After the closure of the monastery by Josef II, it was repopulated again in 1883 by Benedictine monks from Beuron. Since then, the monastery goes by the motto "Ora et labora – Pray and work". 19 Fathers and Brothers live here and celebrate the Conventual Mass and the canonical prayers on a daily basis. But the monks are nevertheless no strangers to the world, as their love of their fellow men also leads them to engage in pastoral activities, such as spiritual exercises, days of reflection and the care of young people at the abbey grammar school. The abbey has in the meantime become an important source of employment in the region. Small businessses today provide an extra means of support for the monastery. Furthermore, the management of the abbey grammar school, the monastery administration, the work in the daily catering service and the necessary maintenance also require a great number of additional workers. The Schattenbergweg trail leads past a large manor. In 1859, Johann Alois Zeilinger, scion of a family known in the Styrian iron industry, had a new scythe hammer built in Schattenberg. The location was a favourable one due to the abundant forest and the water power and offered up to 50 people work and income. As early as 1904, a telephone line was laid from here to Knittelfeld and later also one to the Zeilinger hunting lodge in Roßbach. Zeilinger’s descendents (son Franz, grandson Otto) also ran a large farm, a dairy and a sawmill alongside the hammer works. Business started to dwindle after World War I and the scythe hammer was closed in 1929. In 1953, Viennese industrialist Otto Arnold purchased the remaining property in Schattenberg. Wasserberg Castle sits up on a hill in Ingering II. It was mentioned in a document as early as 1174, and a defence structure overlooked the numerous mule tracks between the Aichfeld and the Paltental and Liesingtal and Pölstal valleys. The old fortress was extended between 1482 and 1512 into a mighty castle complex. From 1260 to 1844, Wasserberg was owned by the Bishopric of Graz-Seckau, and afterwards it changed hands several times. Between 1897 and 1907, it was owned by Prince Arnulf of Bavaria, who ran a hotel with a health centre including a spa doctor in the castle. Count von Montjoye la Roche sold it in 1913 to the
