Using the spring 2015 results of all MCCQE Part I candidates, the new 50 to 950 scale was established to have a mean of 500 and a standard deviation of 100. Results from the spring 2015 and subsequent exam sessions will be reported using this new scale allowing us to compare candidate performance across sessions beginning with the spring 2015 session. For example, if a candidate’s score is 600, his or her ability level is one standard deviation above that of the reference group mean. On this new scale, the pass score that was recommended from the standard setting panel and approved by the CEC is 427. This pass score will remain in place until the next scheduled standard setting exercise in 2018.

Rather, the goal should have been to measure whether members of all groups require the same minimum aerobic capacity to perform the job safely and efficiently and, if not, to reflect that disparity in the employment qualifications. There is no evidence before us that any action was taken to further this goal before the aerobic standard was adopted.

Experts at the World Bank use so-called development diamonds to portray relationships among four socioeconomic indicators for a given country relative to the averages for that country's income group (low-income, lower-middle-income, upper-middle-income, or high-income). Life expectancy at birth, gross primary (or secondary) enrollment, access to safe water, and GNP per capita are presented, one on each axis, then connected with bold lines to form a polygon. The shape of this "diamond" can easily be compared to the reference diamond (see colored diamonds), which represents the average indicators for the country's income group, each indexed to 100 percent. Any point outside the reference diamond shows a value better than the group average, while any point inside signals below-average achievement.
