In the past the Ecomuseum Zoo’s conservation team worked diligently to restore Brown Snake habitats in the Bois-de-l’Île-Bizard, Bois-de-Liesse and Pointe-aux-Prairies nature parks. In 2017-2019 the activities associated to the project will take place in the Île-de-la-Visitation nature park, Refuge faunique de Deux-Montagnes and in the Îles-de-Boucherville national park, where Brown Snake populations are known and established. In order to restore habitats that were previously classified as degraded or sub-optimal, we will put in place structures and landscaping beneficial to the species.

Ses outils de toutes sortes explorent les couches superposées de la matière, les fouillent, les creusent de sillons, toujours soucieux de révéler la véritable nature du bois, son grain et les différentes teintes qui le colorent.
Working with a material as common as plywood[1], Yechel Gagnon creates a whole series of associations infused with poetry. In Gagnon’s hands, plywood takes on a chameleon-like quality, evoking imaginary places and yielding a host of patterns and textures. Using tools of all kinds, she explores the layers of plywood, gouging and etching them with grooves, ever mindful of revealing the nature of the wood, its grain and its different shades of colour. Plywood sheets also serve as a matrix for making rubbings or embossed papers, a technique related to engraving. In recent work, Gagnon has turned towards a more emphatic occupation of architectural space and a sensitivity to issues of site-specificity. Large installation works such as Hoarding, St-Henri, as well as Osmose and Vortex, embody a dialogue on the nature of the site itself. This new approach in Gagnon’s practice is the basis of the exhibition Documents which brings together never-before-seen sketches, maquettes, a virtual project as well as new presentations of Gagnon’s site-specific sculptures.
