And what does this cosy mass protect? See: in the middle of the eiderdown hangs a cylindrical pocket, round at the bottom, cut square at the top and closed with a padded lid. It is made of extremely fine satin; it contains the Epeira's eggs, pretty little orange-coloured beads, which, glued together, form a globule the size of a pea. This is the treasure to be defended against the asperities of the winter.

The Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN) (Ainamo 1982) is an index developed to measure the amount and level of periodontal care that should be provided to the adult population. For example, gingivitis alone could be treated/prevented by an oral hygiene (brushing and flossing) program delivered by dental health educators, whereas pockets of 6mm or more would need the attention of a dental professional. Although the examiners did not record CPITN per se, the data that were recorded allow for allocation of the participants into the CPITN categories.

We definitely want to improve the next Roadmap. You said that people in Saskatchewan were concerned about cuts. That's exactly what the Commissioner of Official Languages said. In his view, when the government considers making cuts, no one oversees what happens to official languages. If a program is abolished, that may not be very serious, but if cuts are made everywhere and no one considers the cumulative effect of those cuts, that can definitely hurt the Standing Committee on Official Languages.

In addition to the type of capping of market shares suggested above, another question is whether developing countries other than the food insecure and least developed countries with competitive large-scale agriculture sectors that produce significant proportions of their exports or import substitutes should be excluded from exemptions made on the basis of food security. Several typologies of developing countries in terms of the impact of trade liberalisation have been developed, but none of them investigate the structure of agriculture within these countries. 15As demonstrated above, the contribution of the agriculture sector to rural development and hence long term food security is significant and therefore it can be argued that exemptions should be made not on the basis of a country's net trade position or agrarian structure, but on its current level of development as characterised by its food insecurity status.

The world's largest producers of food ingredients, flavours and fragrances are all now partnering with Synthetic Biology companies to develop biosynthetic versions of key high value natural commodities such as saffron, vanilla, vetiver and patchouli – replacing botanical sources. This case study illustrates recent developments in synthetic biology that could impact the $22 billion global flavour and fragrance market and the livelihoods of producers of natural commodities. These developments impact the sustainable use of biodiversity and fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the genetic resources that produce natural plant products. No inter-governmental body is addressing the potential impacts of synthetic biology on the conservation and use of biodiversity and on the livelihoods of those who depend on agricultural export commodities (including high-value flavours, fragrances, essential oils, etc).
