En fait, le concept ne vient pas de moi. Il vient d’un anthropologue nommé Becker. Il a écrit un livre intitulé Beyond Translation, où il parle d'apprendre une langue de telle manière que vous commencez à entrer dans la mémoire linguistique, disons dans le sens de l’humour stocké dans la langue, ou peut-être dans les présupposés sexuels sur lesquels se fonde la langue, des choses infimes, encore plus infimes  que ça.

It’s not actually my own notion. It comes from an anthropologist called Becker. He has a book called Beyond Translation where he writes about learning a language in such a way, that you begin to enter the lingual memory, into, let’s say, the sense of humour archived in the language perhaps, into sexual assumptions, which underlie the language perhaps, small things, smaller things than that. It is almost as if – and this is a concept-metaphor – it is almost as if the language has within it not just the rules, that you learn, but an articulated space of differences from any translatable “present” that can produce something like a non-psychologized “memory.” Voloshinov’s insistence, that the mode of existence of a language is exactly not the dictionary also fits into this. When you access lingual memory you are surprised by it, or other people begin to notice it.

Comme il semble clair que je paume la moitié des mails signalant de nouveaux commentaires (ça ne vient pas de moi, matt, qui est chez le même hébergeur, a le même problème) (bon, accessoirement, c’est aussi moi qui ai fait ses scripts, donc ça peut venir de moi, mais ça ne vient pas de moi parce que c’est statutaire, je suis une bête en PHP, ça ne vient donc pas de moi, point final) (final, j’ai dit) (ça veut dire pas de discussions) (et puis ça marchait très bien avant et j’ai rien changé) (ouh l’argument de la lose totale grave qui tue à mort faut que je dorme et encore, vous vous rendez pas compte que je vais devoir traduire ce post en anglais, comment j’me la pète grave écrivain moi) (oh et, au fait, pour les nouveaux lecteurs : oui, ça m’arrive d’aller à la ligne et de commencer un nouveau paragraphe, mais juste pas aujourd’hui).

It’s frightening. (Well, alright, it’s three-am kind of frightening, as in, half my neurones have left for a holiday in the woods and they’re getting slain by young scared virgin booby-girls.) Since it’s pretty clear I’m losing half the email supposed to notify me of new comments (and it’s not just me, matt is hosted by the same company and has the same problem) (well, actually, I also wrote his scripts, so maybe it’s just me, but it’s not me because it just ain’t, and I’m a PHP genius, so it can’t be me, period) (I said, period) (I mean, don’t argue with me) (and anyway it was working perfectly before and I didn’t change anything) (woah, that’s a total loser’s argument here, I really need to get to sleep, but I have to make this English translation that’s losing all the style and grace of the original posting because, yes, my blog has style and grace, only you can’t enjoy it, and it’s a good thing you don’t understand French so you can’t check for yourself) (oh and by the way, for new readers: yes, sometimes I press return and start a new paragraph; just not today). So I was saying something. Since I’m losing email, I decided to add a page listing all comments in reverse chronological order—basically for my own use, so I don’t miss out on any, but I might as well make it available to readers. So… Crap… I just lost all upercase letters on this text because Treepad bugged. Be right back. Good thing I wrote all those parentheses, they didn’t need uppercase. So, I open my index.php to add the option, and what do I find?

I believe nothing can happen that will outweigh the supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For him I have accepted the loss of everything, and I look on everything as so much rubbish if only I can have Christ and be given a place in him. I am no longer trying for perfection by my own efforts, the perfection that comes from the Law, but I want only the perfection that comes through faith in Christ, and is from God and based on faith. All I want is to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and to share his sufferings by reproducing the pattern of his death. That is the way I can hope to take my place in the resurrection of the dead. Not that I have become perfect yet: I have not yet won, but I am still running, trying to capture the prize for which Christ Jesus captured me. I can assure you my brothers and sisters, I am far from thinking that I have already won. All I can say is that I forget the past and I strain ahead for what is still to come; I am racing for the finish, for the prize to which God calls us upwards to receive in Christ Jesus.
