Approximately 8,700 jobs were added to existing jobs over the past year, bringing employment volume to a historic peak. Employment growth (2.4%) was markedly higher than the rate for the province as a whole (1.7%). The employment rate climbed to 63.1% (60.2% for the province). The vitality of the labour market led to a reduction in the number of job seekers in the region. In 2010, the region continued to have the lowest unemployment rate (5.1%) of all Quebec regions (8% for the province as a whole).
