The effect of job loss on health may explain part of the correlation between socio-economic conditions and health. The paper finds no evidence that business closures lead to worse health outcomes, but does find evidence that layoffs lead to diminished health. Accounting for self-reported health conditions prior to the layoff and subjective job loss expectations, it is estimated that a layoff could increase annual mortality rates by close to 10%.

Protecting the health and environment of Canadians is a key government priority. Budget 2011 provides funding to continue to protect the environment, address environmental risks to the health of Canadians, and support critical weather services that Canadians and businesses rely on. With these investments the Government is allocating more resources to environmental objectives in 2011-12 than it did in 2010-11.

Gas stoves, fireplaces and furnaces produce carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and small airborne particles called "particulate matter". All of these can increase the level of pollution in your indoor air and affect your health.

Yes. Assault is not exempted in the paragraph you read out earlier, because it refers to assault with bodily harm, something that a police officer cannot be authorized to do. However, he can be authorized to commit assault. Common assault can be authorized. But, as I say, assault causing injuries that are not just temporary injuries or are detrimental to a person's health, may not be authorized.

Giving the word "serious" its appropriate dictionary meaning, I would interpret "serious bodily harm" as being any hurt or injury that interferes in a grave or substantial way with the physical integrity or well-being of the complainant.  Thus "serious bodily harm" does not require proof of the same degree of harm required for aggravated assault described in s. 268 of the Code; that is to say the wounding, disfiguring or endangering of the life of the complainant.  Yet it requires greater harm than the mere "bodily harm" described in s. 267; that is hurt or injury that interferes with the health or comfort of the complainant and that is more than merely transient or trifling in nature.

Fungi are ubiquitous components of indoor human environments, where most contact between humans and microbes occurs. The majority of these organisms apparently play a neutral role, but some are detrimental to human lifestyles and health. Recent studies that used culture-independent sampling methods demonstrated a high diversity of indoor fungi distinct from that of outdoor environments. Others have shown temporal fluctuations of fungal assemblages in human environments and modest correlations with human activity, but global-scale patterns have not been examined, despite the manifest significance of biogeography in other microbial systems. Here we present a global survey of fungi from indoor environments (n = 72), using both taxonomic and phylogeny-informative molecular markers to determine whether global or local indoor factors determine indoor fungal composition. Contrary to common ecological patterns, we show that fungal diversity is significantly higher in temperate zones than in the tropics, with distance from the equator being the best predictor of phylogenetic community similarity. Fungal composition is significantly auto-correlated at the national and hemispheric spatial scales. Remarkably, building function has no significant effect on indoor fungal composition, despite stark contrasts between architecture and materials of some buildings in close proximity. Distribution of individual taxa is significantly range- and latitude-limited compared with a null model of randomized distribution. Our results suggest that factors driving fungal composition are primarily global rather than mediated by building design or function.

Based on our belief that everyone has the right to accessible health care, our programs and services are available to those who experience barriers to care.  Such barriers may include poverty, homelessness, language or culture as well as complex chronic health conditions including mental health and addictions.  Our CHC, and all others, focus on the social determinants of health (SDOH) to develop and provide programs as well as services.  Examples of SDOH include income, education, housing, employment, food, recreation and social supports.  Our interprofessional teams respond to people’s individual health issues and also create programs and services that reduce social and environmental problems harming health.  Everything we do is carefully tailored to respond to the diverse needs of the communities we serve.

Economic crime erodes the faith of Canadian and foreign investors in the integrity of our financial systems, our currency, our governments, our businesses, and our products. These crimes undermine the financial health and reputation of our country. They are far from victimless. Ultimately, we are all victims of these crimes, as they erode confidence in the financial system. And it takes a long time and a lot of effort and investment to re-establish public confidence once it is lost.

Constantine’s cultural and creative cluster is more than just a simple support project for artisans. In addition to the aspects related to coppersmith training in several specialities, its initiators have also set out to build bridges with the scientific world. The University of Constantine 3 - Salah Boubnider has examined certain aspects related to the working conditions and environment of the coppersmiths. Furthermore, the Faculty of Medicine has carried out a study regarding the consequences of chemical products which are harmful to the health of the artisans. “The operational health laboratory has also studied the effects of noise and the risks related to the working position of the coppersmiths. This laboratory is required to submit a series of concrete proposals in order to solve the various health problems,” indicates Professor Chawki Bennabes, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Constantine 3. The Faculty of Earth Sciences is, on the other hand, interested in the complex issue of soil pollution in Bardo and water pollution in the Wadi Rummel, which runs below the district. In addition, researchers and students from the Faculty of Art and Culture of this university centre have studied the meaning of the various symbols that appear on the pieces made by the Constantine coppersmiths and those that artisans have been reproducing for generations. “The cluster project has provided us with unsuspected fields of scientific research. Like the issues of urban planning since the results of the work carried out by our university’s faculties, which will define the future artisan district, soon to become a significant tourist attraction for the city of Constantine,” says Professor Chawki Bennabes.

In order to prevent any risk to human food and animal feed and to guarantee healthy and good quality crops, the EU places great emphasis on plant and crop protection. There are therefore checks on the movement of plants within the EU or from third countries in order to combat the emergence and spread of harmful organisms. The EU also ensures that plant health products are not harmful to health or the environment, specifically through an authorisation system and maximum residue limits in plants.
