However, this is pretty much forgotten and things have actually improved since Canada took its position on the Iraq war. In my opinion, the fact that Canada will not admit that things have changed drastically in Algeria since the ’90s may harm relations to some extent. First of all I want to congratulate the National Energy Board for 50 years of outstanding service to Canadians. I think the NEB has set a gold standard when it comes to being a regulatory agency in this country. At balancing often the complex needs around bringing energy on in a reliable fashion and meeting the needs of stakeholders. I only hear really good things about the NEB since I've been here at NRCan (Natural Resources Canada). In terms of challenges that the NEB will face over its next 50 years I think things have changed considerably since 1959 when it comes to issues around the environment, land use, just balancing the economy and the environment is something I think is going to be a key challenge and again continuing to ensure that we have a really excellent competitiveness situation in Canada for bringing on energy which we need, but bringing it on in a way that's cleaner and that serves the needs of Canadians in the best way possible.

Turgeon and his party were returned in the general election of 8 June 1908. In a dramatic move, he resigned again. Two days later Laurier replied that he did not understand why Turgeon wanted to “fade into the background,” when, as a minister, he was “in the thick of the fray.” The upshot was that Turgeon had to be satisfied with the provincial upper house, where he took his seat on 2 Feb. 1909 at the age of 45. He represented the division of La Vallière and acted as speaker for the remaining 21 years of his life, the longest term ever served in this office.

On s’est fait dire qu’il fallait de plus grands organismes et que la délimitation des zones de service des cliniques ne reposait sur aucun fondement rationnel. Les choses ont bien changé depuis que nos cliniques ont vu le jour.

Given that we all have a stake in the present system, it was critical that we find a vantage point to ground the discussion that did not look after our own interests first. Agreeing that our focus had to be on what was in the best interests of our client community was not difficult. It has proven to be a very useful lens to look through when evaluating ideas and past practices. It certainly helped us understand that the status quo could not be maintained.
