It is important to remember, as the French author Marcel Niedergang has put it, that there is not one Latin America; there are twenty Latin Americas. While the Iberian heritage is common to most of the region, French-speaking Haiti is also a nation of Latin America. And the Iberian tradition reflects the past not only of Spain but the very different formative experience of Portugal. Brazil may be the only Portuguese country in Latin America, but it represents about one-third of its population and roughly half the continent of South America.

Managers who are friendly, competent and well-organized are well regarded. However, given the culture of deference and people’s general unwillingness to be direct in terms of feedback, makes it difficult to know what staff think. Look for visual cues and body language when talking to people to determine people’s comfort levels.

Case studies of eight small to medium size hotels in Europe highlight the hotels’ reliance on traditional marketing and distribution methods, as well as their general reluctance to commit heavily to electronic distribution, particularly through online distribution sites. Although the hotels are broadly diverse in size and market segment, all eight maintain a website. However, only one applies such online strategies as search engine optimization, while the others prefer direct sales - and some expressly prefer higher rates from direct sales rather than the higher occupancy that might arise from web-based distribution.

46 Aside from our general reluctance to disturb the choice of terms by sophisticated commercial parties, we note in passing that the appellant not only rescinded the contract, but also tendered return of the insurance premiums.  Their letter of August 5, 1992 stated their intention to rescind the policy, and they enclosed a cheque for $106,000, representing the premiums paid by Gordon under the policy.  This distinguishes this case from Mills, supra, and demonstrates Guarantee’s attempt to effect a restitution and restore the parties to the status quo ante, a crucial aspect of rescission.  See Waddams, supra, at para. 424.  While obviously not conclusive evidence of their contractual intentions, this evidence confirms the earlier conclusion that “rescission”, as used in this contract, did indeed mean just that.
