Include a written statement of SSHRC funding support in submissions to peer-reviewed publications, citing the name of the funding opportunity. If multiple grants and/or funding agencies support the grant, all sources of funding must be listed.

Bryant pioneered the fields of digital petrophysics and nanoparticles for petroleum engineering applications, and has made some of the most significant advances in the past 20 years in porous media modelling, reactive transport theory, and CO2 sequestration. Bryant has more than 280 publication credits to his name—including for books, book chapters, peer reviewed journal articles, and conference proceedings—on topics such as applications in production engineering, reservoir engineering and formation evaluation.

The first report measures the availability of scholarly publications in 22 fields of knowledge across the European Research Area, Brazil, Canada, Japan, and the United States, between 2004 and 2011. The study estimates that more than 40% of peer-reviewed articles published worldwide over this period are now available online in open access form, while in several countries and disciplines this proportion is superior to 50%. For example, a majority of articles are freely available in the fields of general science and technology, biomedical research, biology and mathematics and statistics. Open access is more limited in the social sciences, humanities, and applied sciences, engineering and technology.

Biography | Dr. Bonnie Mallard is currently a professor of immunogenetics in the Department of Pathobiology, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. Dr. Mallard is a member of the Centre of Genetic Improvement of Livestock (CGIL), at the university. She has been recognized at the national and international levels for her work on the High Immune Response Technology (HIR) for improving the health of dairy cattle. In the last few years, she has focused on extending this technology for use in dairy sires and in developing a genomics test for HIR in order to broaden its application. Dr. Mallard has been published extensively, with over 100 full-length articles in referred journals, and has presented hundreds of abstracts and oral presentations at scientific meetings.

Robert Lipson received his PhD in Physics in 1985 from the University of Toronto, and did postdoctoral work in the Spectroscopy group at the National Research Council Canada. He was a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Western Ontario until 2010 when he joined the faculty at the University of Victoria as Professor of Chemistry and Dean of Science. Dr. Lipson has published more than 110 refereed papers in the fields of laser spectroscopy, photonics materials and applications related to interference lithography, and analytical technique development for MALDI mass spectrometry. He is a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada.

In many cases, you're writing papers where you're writing with students and that should be made clearly obvious in the way that you're presenting the material, in highlighting that the students are there because we know that when the training's not done when the science is done. The training is done when the science is out the door, when it's on its way to the peered evaluation journals.  That's a really important part of the training of science. And one way to demonstrate clearly that you're accomplishing the task in training people is to get your students to publish, to get them to go through that whole referee review process that goes on with the journals so to do those types of things.

Dr. Mario Lamontagne received his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique of Montreal at the University of Montreal. He is currently professor in Biomechanics, at the School of Human Kinetics of the University of Ottawa, as well as cross-appointed at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of this same University. Dr. Lamontagne is actively involved in joint mechanics, muscle modeling, measurements of in vivo mechanical properties of human tissues, electromyography, biomechanics of sport injuries and sport biomechanics. He has supervised numerous students at the Master and doctorate level. He has published more than 50 papers in referred journals. For the last 20 years, he has received research funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Moreover, he is currently funded by NSERC, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Canadian Arthritis Network (CAN). Dr. Lamontagne is active member of the CAN. His major research programs focus on the mechanics of the human knee joint of healthy and pathological subjects, as well as to the biomechanical assessment of the mobility of patients with a total hip arthroplasty or femoro-acetabular impingement. More recently, his research program is also looking at the effect of a whole body vibration therapy on muscle function and joint loading in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Eisenberg has published over 250 articles in peer-reviewed journals and participated in multiple collaborative works. His research focuses on the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, with topics ranging from interventional cardiology to broad public health issues such as smoking and obesity. His research team is examining the use and effectiveness of various smoking cessation pharmacotherapies with several randomized controlled trials. The Zyban as an Effective Smoking Cessation Aid (ZESCA) trial compared the efficacy of bupropion (Zyban) to that of a placebo as a means of reducing smoking rates in patients following an enzyme-positive acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The Evaluation of Varenicline (Champix™) in smokIng cessation for paTients post-Acute coronary syndrome (EVITA) trial examined the efficacy and safety of varenicline for smoking cessation post-ACS. The CIHR-funded Evaluating the Efficacy of E-Cigarette use for Smoking Cessation (E3) Trial is an ongoing randomized controlled trial examining nicotine and non-nicotine e-cigarettes for smoking cessation in the general population of smokers motivated to quit.
