Andrès established several lines of research related to the increased demand for incineration and related objects, after taking part in meetings with families and interview them to better understand their expectations and forms of mourning, as well as drafting a report on new practices and developments in the funeral industry.

But Thierry does more than translating his passionate theory into musical notes: he is one of the few composers who actually performs himself. Solo, with his own works at the piano, in chamber ensembles, or as soloist with orchestra in his piano concertos. By performing live, he puts his ideas to the test directly. The interaction with the audience provides him with the experience he can use in his strive to find the perfect music that will indeed facilitate the perfect ritualistic performance. In 2009 he decided to found the Ensemble Variances to constitute a platform for encounters between contemporary creation and music of other traditions.

ritualisation
aurait favorisé l’évolution de nombreux signaux à partir de comportements n’ayant aucune fonction de signalisation.

Animal communication signals can be highly elaborate, and researchers have long sought explanations for their evolutionary origins. For example, how did signals such as the tail-fan display of a peacock, a firefly flash or a wolf howl evolve? Animal communication theory holds that many signals evolved from non-signalling behaviours through the process of ritualization. Empirical evidence for ritualization is limited, as it is necessary to examine living relatives with varying degrees of signal evolution within a phylogenetic framework. We examine the origins of vibratory territorial signals in caterpillars using comparative and molecular phylogenetic methods. We show that a highly ritualized vibratory signal—anal scraping—originated from a locomotory behaviour—walking. Furthermore, comparative behavioural analysis supports the hypothesis that ritualized vibratory signals derive from physical fighting behaviours. Thus, contestants signal their opponents to avoid the cost of fighting. Our study provides experimental evidence for the origins of a complex communication signal, through the process of ritualization.

Pink & Silver is a possibility for employing the creativity and corporeality demanded by capitalism outside the realm of traditional forms of representation. In this context, it is possible to question the construction of gender identity and to anticipate elements of lighthearted revolt. However, this demonstration form is only ONE possibility, which can achieve a subversive effect to a limited extent. As soon as these kinds of structures become established, they become part of a controllable representation. Creativity and corporeality are then just a decorative supplement, just as the female frequently is in the dominant society. The subversion of gender roles is also affirmed in ritualization and repetition. For the time being, though, this represents a possibility to break through what is "normal". When it is no longer subversive, then we will have to look for new forms of resistance again.

“There is also the issue of the intrusion of private life at the workplace. This all started a few years ago when a panel met to discuss the harmful effects of the Blackberry. My studies revealed that an enormous amount of personal communication went on at work: people routinely exchange with each other during the course of the day. I also examined the reactions of businesses to this situation and found they varied depending on hierarchy: the more autonomy people have in their projects and work, the more they are likely to have access to the full range of communication methods like Facebook and mobile phones; the further down the ladder employees are, the more likely they are to have their access controlled. But people find solutions: they phone from the bathrooms or say that they are going to have a cigarette when they go out to use the phone. These exchanges are very brief and private. They also become rituals: they are made during breaks and serve as a pick-me-up or, at the end of the day, help people to switch hats, for example from “employee” to “mum”. This overinvestment in communication with family and friends reassures people and helps them to deal with their anxieties.”
