King Sebastião was said to have walked many times from Évora to the convent where he lived the life of the monks and slept in a simple cell. King Sebastião was a great lover of bullfights and actually ordered the building of an arena where he himself would sometimes challenge a bull, cheered by the monks and sometimes by Cardinal Henrique who was always a special guest.

Saint George's Castle can be seen from almost everywhere in the city. Its oldest parts date from the 6th century, when it was fortified by the Romans, Visigoths, and eventually the Moors. It served as a Moorish royal residence until Portugal's first king Afonso Henriques captured it in 1147 with the help of northern European crusaders on their way to the Holy Land. São Jorge Castle accommodates between its walls a typical set of houses. Between these walls is the Solar Do Castelo, the only hotel situated within the medieval village. An 18th century Building, built on the site of the former kitchens of the Alcáçovas Palace.

Thanks to the generous loan of the Museo Nacional da Musica in Lisbon, for these recordings, Mr. Gomziakov played on the 1725 “Chevillard King of Portugal” Stradivarius cello formerly belonging to the Portuguese royal family. This is the first time this very special instrument was ever recorded.

Brazza, the explorer who gave the Congo to France, was unknown in 1876 during his first mission. On his way back from the Ogooué in 1879, he was invited by the king of Portugal, in Lisbon. He was awarded a gold medal from the Geographical Societies of Paris and Rome. The king of Belgium Léopold II, , who understood the danger this man represented to his colonial plans, tried to convince him to work under for government. The explorer knew how to please his audience, right from the beginning of his second mission, the mail sent to his correspondents (family, political or scientific personalities) promoted his publicity. The French and Italian societies distributed the publications. Brazza's style caught people's attention. Many times he would say that what he did was for his country, France and for which he would give his life. "I put my life into play so my words have more intensity", "I will risk my life even sick". This man with a complex personality knew how to impress people. For weeks he kept secret the treaty he had signed with the king of Batéké, the Makoko, which was later to become the birth of the French Congo. This simple treaty signed with this local king became tremendously famous thanks to the press. Brazza became a national hero, an icon, "the peaceful conqueror", "bare foot man", without weapons as opposed to Stanley. "He was given something of national pride" said Jules Ferry.

NAZARÉ is blessed with magnificent light, pleasing sun, fine white sand and hospitable locals. The seven colorful skirts worn by Nazaré women have been worn since the days when they used to wait for their husbands to return from the day's fishing trip. But today the town is defined more by the waves that attract surfers and body-boarders and the beautiful underwater landscapes that attract divers. The lovely cove is protected by high cliffs, atop which the Sítio da Nazaré offers a memorable view.

Once at the gate of lakes, next to the guard shack, walked to the parking lot remembering the last recommendation of the friendly usher, we talked to a path that circumvents the road until you reach the entrance to the Moorish Castle, now you can not visit because the pavement is slippery and dangerous. This castle was donated to Muslims, while Sintra, by King Alfonso VI of Leon in the eleventh century and handed over half a century after the first king of Portugal, Don Alfonso Henriques.
