I cannot help thinking that that observation turned out in the result to be a very unfortunate one, because the question, as has been so often pointed out, is a question of fact. There is sometimes a temptation for judges in dealing with these traffic cases to decide questions of fact in language which appears to lay down some rule which users of the road must observe.… I cannot regard that observation of Scrutton L.J.’s as in any sense affecting other cases where the circumstances are different. In the hope that this suggested principle may rest peacefully in the grave in future and not be resurrected with the idea that there is still some spark of life in it, I should like to say that I am in agreement with the observation of Lord Wright, sitting in this court in Tidy v. Battman, [1934] 1 K.B. 319, 322. He says there, referring to Baker v. Longhurst & Sons, Ld., and one other case, that they show “that no one case is exactly like another, and no principle of law can in my opinion be extracted from those cases. It is unfortunate that questions which are questions of fact alone should be confused by importing into them as principles of law a course of reasoning which has no doubt properly been applied in deciding other cases on other sets of facts.”

Canadian literature is international and is recognized as such, but not music, film or drama. History is partially recognized. The problem we have with our past is that while we have created—and this is one of the successes—a phenomenal infrastructure in this country, all you have to do, as I do, is watch the school groups as they come in and ask them if they know who Mr. Diefenbaker was. They answer “He's the dog on television.” There's a show that has a dog, Mr. Diefenbaker. They ask in all honesty, “Was he a Conservative or a Liberal?” I wait to hear him roll over in his grave, because that's right beside our building. We ask them if they know what you call the leader of Canada and they say “President” 90% of the time.

Ahead of his disarmament summit with Barack Obama today, Tuesday, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited Slovakia to commemorate Bratislava's liberation by the Red Army. The leftist daily Pravda is disappointed that he failed to make any mention of the crushing of the Prague Spring in 1968: "He needn't have said anything. It would have been enough for him to lay a bouquet on the grave of Alexander Dubček [the Czechoslovakian party leader and reform communist]. Medvedev would have become the first Russian president to honour Dubček's memory - unlike Yeltsin and Putin and even Gorbachev, who paid tribute to Dubček but never visited his grave. You could argue that Medvedev's was there to honour the victims of the Second World War. But an honest gesture in commemoration of the tragic occupation would certainly have been a bigger gesture."

This technique was further developed by Fessenden for use during World War I to detect submarines at sea. In the 1920s, he also invented a fathometer that became common equipment on board ships, including cable-laying vessels. His achievements in promoting safety at sea were highly appreciated; they are also referred to in an inscription on his grave in Bermuda: "By his genius, distant lands converse and men sail unafraid on the deep."

Sometimes we had dolls made out of ivory, but most of the time they were wood. We used to play a lot with those dolls. Once we had a little doll dying, and we were mourning and everything was real. My doll was my adopted child. She died and we had a funeral. Afterwards we got scared. We actually got scared over a little doll, especially of the burial site, and we couldn't even go to that area afterwards. We pretended to bury the little doll. Vilaplan lies at the foot of the Prades mountains, watched over by the uninhabited hamlet of La Mussara. The two villages, their imposing cliffs and their valleys offer very beautiful spots, hidden corners that were also a refuge for guerrilla fighters. One of them, the Carlist leader Cercós, died in the cave known as “L’Hospital dels Carlins” (the Carlists’ Hospital) and was buried in secret in La Mussara cemetery. Legend says that the hatred he aroused among his Liberal enemies led a group to go to the cemetery and, when they could not manage to find his grave, symbolically shoot one of the coffins, where an old lady called Boronada was buried.

The devotion of the faithful was about to ruin it with tears of emotion, wax candles and wore incessant caresses the stone. Inevitably, I remember the pillar carved by the kisses of the devotees in the beloved Basilica del Pilar in Saragossa. Pilgrimage here at least once in life is an obsession for any Ethiopian Christian, that will go home satisfied with a handful of red earth of Lalibela in the pocket.

Mycenae is one of the most important archeological sites in Greece. This mythical town of King Agamemnon was the setting for some of the most well known classical Greek tragedies and the starting place of the Trojan War. Significantly important ruins, such as the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion of the Northern Gates, the Houses, the Tomb of the Atrides Family and of course the Agamemnon Tomb, are only few of the many you will stumble across when visiting the area. However, the most world famous finding is the golden funeral mask of Agamemnon, which was found inside his tomb and is exhibited today in the National Archeological Museum of Athens.

Most common are animal s – a lion, fish, deer or bear. When you find the grave of Rabbi Löw, place your piece of paper with a message asking for help and a prayer on his headstone. In 1847, Alfred Rethel painted a Charlemagne whose face is blurred by a veil. The painting is based on a medieval description of the opening of Charlemagne's tomb by Emperor Otto III. But it is also a symbol of how the features of the historical Charlemagne have long disappeared behind a veil of later interpretations and reinterpretations. Each passing century has interpreted Charlemagne in its own interests: as a model ruler and as a saint, as a guarantor for prosperity and stability, as a Frenchman or as a German.
