This lecture introduces the concepts of programming graphics cards for non-graphical applications, such as data sorting, image filtering (e.g. denoising, sharpening), or physically based simulations. During the course, students familiarize themselves with the architecture of the current GPUs and develop parallel programming skills using the OpenCL and CUDA language.

Er wurde 2004 aktiv im GPU Computing und gilt als einer der frühen Anwender in Deutschland. Von 2006 bis 2015 war er Mitherausgeber von GPGPU.org. In SimTech leitet er das GPU-bezogene Projekt „Hardware-adaptive and self-balancing algorithms and data structures for numerical simulation of PDE problems“.

Prof. Dr. Dominik Göddeke serves as the coordinator of SimTech’s GPU-related activities. He has been active in GPU-accelerated computing since late 2004, and is one of the early adopters in Germany. Between 2006 and 2015, he served as an editor for GPGPU.org. At SimTech Prof. Göddeke coordinates the GPU-centric project: ‘Hardware-adaptive and self-balancing algorithms and data structures for numerical simulation of PDE problems’.

Neben der Vorstellung des neuen 300 TFlop/s RWTH Compute Clusters am Montag, den 21. März werden sowohl Kurse zur seriellen und parallelen Programmierung mittels OpenMP und MPI in Fortran und C / C++, als auch zum Performance-Tuning angeboten. Am Freitag werden Grundlagen der GPGPU-Programmierung durch einen renommierten Experten zu präsentiert.

This event will continue the tradition of previous annual week-long events taking place in Aachen (March 21st - 25th ). After the announcement of the upcoming 300 TFlop/s RWTH Compute Cluster on Monday, we will cover serial and parallel programming using OpenMP and MPI in Fortran and C / C++ as well as performance tuning.
