On the occasion of the “day against noise” on April 25, DB publishes it’s “Report of the Noise Control Commissioner”, which includes the halving of rail traffic noises by the end of 2020. Andreas Gehlhaar, head of environment and noise control commissioner at DB, presented the noise control measures in the TiME Lab at Fraunhofer HHI. According to DB, 70 percent of the 44.000 freight wagons of DB Cargo are already on “on soft feet”, and this year the figure is expected to rise above 50.000. In addition, 1,700 kilometers of track have so far been upgraded by noise control and 58,400 apartments have been fitted with soundproof windows.

The study tour started with the presentation of the “Masterplan City and Region Hanover – 100% for Climate Protection”. Established in 2012 under the National Climate Initiative (NKI), the Masterplan comprises a comprehensive strategy on how to reduce the region’s greenhouse gases by 95 per cent and the energy consumption by half by 2050, based on 1990 levels. Unfortunately there are no photos of the facsimile copy of the "Codex Alfonso" - Libro de los Juegos de Ajedrez, Dados y Tablas de Alfonso X el Sabio – including the big commentary volume which could be admired both in the next room. The "Codex" was bound in ochre yellow leather (a not very attractive color, just based on the original), anyway the printing in brilliant colors on lamb parchment was most exquisite. The halving of the price (usually 16,880 €) was due to the fact that it was an unnumbered reserve copy of the edition. I am not aware if this real gem has found a purchaser...
