Die in lokalen Ethernet-Netzen bewährte softwarebasierte TCP/IP-Protokoll verarbeitung stößt an ihre Grenzen. Die Rechenleistung kann nicht mehr mit der Entwicklung der Netzwerkgeschwindigkeit Schritt halten. Durch die Entwicklung eines TCP/IP Stacks in Hardware sowohl für 1 Gigabit als auch für 10 Gigabit Ethernet hat das Fraunhofer HHI dieses Problem gelöst. Mit der Implementierung von TCP/IP in Hardware haben die Forscher die Verarbeitung von Kommunikationsprotokollen von der Software in die Hardware verlagert. Diese eingebetteten Hardware-Systeme ermöglichen etwa in der Medizintechnik oder im Hochfrequenz-Handel die Übertragung und Verarbeitung von Daten in Gigabit in Echtzeit bei minimalen Latenzzeiten und optimaler Ausnutzung der Übertragungskapazität. Die Ausnutzung der Übertragungskapazität bei gleichzeitig minimierter Latenzzeit war mit den herkömmlichen softwarebasierten Implementierungen bisher nicht möglich.

Conventional software-based TCP/IP processing in local Ethernet networks has now reached its limits as computing power fails to keep pace with the development of high-speed networks. Fraunhofer HHI has now found a way out of this impasse with its development of a hardware-based TCP/IP stack tailored to both 1 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernets. With their implementation of the TCP/IP in hardware, researchers have switched the processing of communication protocols from software to hardware. In fields like medical technology or high frequency trading, these embedded hardware systems enable transmission and processing of gigabits of data in real-time with minimal latency and optimal use of transmission capacity. Usage of full data throughput with simultaneous minimal latency is a hurdle that standard software-based protocols could never jump.

In der Schweiz war Cannabis bis vor wenigen Jahren einmal fast legal, denn vor der Revision des Betäubungsmittelgesetzes in den Jahren 2009-2013 war der Anbau von Hanf ohne THC-Beschränkung erlaubt, lediglich die Verarbeitung, Weitergabe und der Konsum der THC-haltigen Teile der Pflanze waren verboten, sofern ein Bauer für diese keine Ausnahmegenehmigung aufweisen konnte. Eine solche gab es zur Belieferung von Hanf-Brauereien oder zur Herstellung von Auszügen zur Aromatherapie. Die Eidgenossen waren sogar ganz kurz davor, Anbau, Weiterverarbeitung und Verkauf von Gras und Haschisch zu regulieren, nachdem ein Bericht der Eidgenössischen Kommission für Drogenfragen (EKDF) eine Revision des Betäubungsmittelgesetzes (BetmG) und eine Legalisierung des Konsums, des Handels sowie des Anbaus von Cannabis empfohlen hatte. Daraufhin verabschiedete der Bundesrat am 9. März 2001 seine Botschaft für die Revision des Betäubungsmittelgesetzes, die den Empfehlungen des EKDF folgte. Der Schweizer Ständerat (Länderkammer), eine der beiden Gesetz gebenden Kammern, folgte der Empfehlung des Bundesrates und nahm den Vorschlag mehrheitlich an. Der Nationalrat (Volkskammer) ließ sich sehr viel Zeit und zudem im Sommer 2002 von der UNO unter Druck setzen. Ein neues Mitglied, so argumentierte man damals in New York, müsse sich an die „Single Convention“ von 1961 halten, durch die der Hanfanbau weltweit fast ausgerottet wurde. Die Bestimmungen dieses UNO-Dogmas sind so restriktiv, dass selbst der Anbau von Nutzhanf komplizierten und teuren Regularien unterliegen muss, die ihn für viele Landwirte weltweit wiederum unattraktiv machen (sollen?).

Until a few years ago, Cannabis was all but legal in Switzerland. From 2009-2013, up until the revision of the Narcotics Act, cultivation of cannabis was permitted without limits imposed on the THC content and only the preparation, distribution and consumption of the parts of the plant containing THC was prohibited, unless special authorisation had been granted to the farmer, which was granted for supply to cannabis breweries or for the production of extracts for aromatherapy. The Swiss were even on the brink of regulating the cultivation, further processing and sale of weed and hash, following a recommendation from the Swiss Federation for Drug Issues (EKDF) to revise the Narcotic Act (BetmG) and legalise the consumption, trade and cultivation of cannabis. In response, on 9 March 2011 the Swiss Federal Council approved a revision of the Narcotics Act in line with the recommendations of the EKDF. The Swiss Council of States – the upper house (one of the two legislative chambers) – followed the recommendations of the Swiss Federal Council and adopted the proposal by majority vote. The National Council (the lower house), however, lost a lot of time and in addition was put under pressure by the United Nations in summer 2002. The argument in New York at the time was that a new member should adhere to the Single Convention of 1961, as a result of which cannabis cultivation had been as good as wiped out the world over. The provisions of this UN dogma were so restrictive that even the cultivation of hemp for industrial use was subject to complicated and expensive formalities, which made (were designed to make?) cultivation unattractive for many farmers worldwide.
