Morcote, with its special characteristics, offers a very interesting point of departure. The Santa Maria del Sasso Church, overlooking the town, its centre and the Scherrer Park with its monuments really make a visit worthwhile. From the end of the town of Morcote to the San Grato Botanical Park in Carona, the dirt roads and paths are wide and therefore not particularly difficult or steep, except 30 metres in the Torello area. The route mostly passes through the woods of Mount Arbostora and has an elevation difference of 350 m., dividing the point of departure from Madonna d’Ongero. The rest of the route is quite level. The proposed itinerary is the most interesting of the Ceresio area: in fact, apart from passing through some of the most appreciated places, it has several panoramic outlook points. There are about five of these: Torello, Madonna d’Ongero, Alpe Vicania, the San Grato Park and the Tenza area, in the stretch between l’Alpe Vicania e the San Grato Park. Furthermore, there are other two panoramic outlooks between Madonna d’Ongero and Alpe Vicania. It’s impossible not to be fascinated by the area of Torello which includes the church, the old farm and the surrounding meadows, the Madonna d’Ongero Church, the Alpe Vicania with its pastures and the inviting restaurant (seasonal opening) and slightly before Carona, the San Grato Botanical Park which, with its great floral variety, its thematic footpaths and restaurant, will entice you to make a stop.At Carona one should not miss out on a visit of the village centre.
