Our event overview for the new week starts with the strings: Right at the beginning of the week, Nils Mönkemeyer will be a guest at the Kulturradio Klassik Lounge in Berlin's Watergate Club on May 14, accompanied by Andreas Arend. From May 14 to 17, Korbinian Altenberger will be playing with the Symphonieorchester of the Bayerischer Rundfunk conducted by Mariss Jansons in Helsinki, St. Petersburg and Moscow. Works by Strauss and Ravel will be performed. On May 17, Diana Tishchenko and Joachim Carr give a concert in Kristiansand, Norway. The program includes sonatas No. 1 for violin and piano in F major, op. 6 and no. 3 for violin and piano in C minor, op. 45 by Edward Grieg, and Igor Stravinsky's divertimento for violin and piano "The Fairy's Kiss" (1932). Sophia Jaffé will perform works by Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Brahms, Dvorak, Turina and others at the Chamber Music Festival Gartow in Wendland on May 19th. At the West Wicklow Festival, Philip Higham will perform three concerts with works by Beethoven, Poulenc, Debussy, Brahms, Schubert and Bach from the 17th to the 19th May. Esther Saladin will be playing with the trio uBu at the SWR Schwetzinger Festspiele on May 18, performing works by Bernd Alois Zimmermann and Michael Denhoff. A special highlight awaits lovers of classical music from the 18th of May on in southern Germany: Claudio Bohórquez himself will perform as artistic director of the chamber music festival Winnenden, including works by Hoffmeister, Arensky, Mozart, Brahms and Tchaikovsky.
