Die spezifischen Herausforderungen der wasserbasierten Herstellung von LTO-Elektroden resultieren vor allem daraus, dass die wässrigen LTO-Schlicker einen hohen pH-Wert von 11,2–11,8 aufweisen. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass die Einstellung des basischen pH-Werts eine intrinsische Eigenschaft des Aktivmaterials ist und nicht nur auf das Vorhandensein von Syntheseverunreinigungen zurückzuführen ist. Der hohe pH-Wert stellt nicht nur hohe Anforderungen an die Stabilität der Binderkomponenten für die wässrigen LTO-Anoden, er führt außerdem zur Korrosion der Aluminium-Ableiterfolie während des Beschichtungsvorgangs. Besonders pH-Werte oberhalb von 8,5 haben die Bildung von Aluminiumhydroxid und Wasserstoff (2Al + 6H2O = 2Al(OH)3 + 3H2↑) zur Folge. In den ersten wässrigen LTO-Gießversuchen war daher eine deutliche Porenund Rissbildung sowie Aluminium-Lochkorrosion während der Schichttrocknung festzustellen. In der Folge wurde der Mischprozess derartig angepasst, dass die LTO-Schlickeraufbereitung vollständig in dem für LTO natürlichen pH-Bereich von ca. 11 erfolgte und erst kurz vor dem Gießvorgang der pH-Wert des Schlickers in den neutralen Bereich verschoben wurde. Auf diese Weise konnten im Folgenden stabile Elektroden mit den beschriebenen elektrochemischen Eigenschaften realisiert werden.

The specific challenges of water-based manufacturing of LTO electrodes mainly result from the fact that the aqueous LTO slurries have a high pH of 11.2–11.8. It has been shown that the alkaline pH is an intrinsic property of the active material and is not only due to the presence of synthesis contaminants. The high pH places high demands on the stability of the binder components for the aqueous LTO anodes and leads to corrosion of the aluminum collector foil during the coating process. In particular, pH values above 8.5 result in the formation of aluminum hydroxide and hydrogen (2Al + 6H2O = 2Al(OH)3 + 3H2↑). In the first aqueous LTO casting experiments, pore and crack formation as well as aluminum pitting corrosion was observed during electrode drying. As a result, the mixing process was adapted in such a way that the LTO slurry preparation was completely carried out at a pH of approx. 11, the normal pH for LTO. The pH of the slurry was shifted to the neutral range just before the casting process. In this way, stable electrodes with the described electrochemical properties could be realized.

Die Südwestgruppe der Internationalen Regenbogenfisch Gesellschaft initiierte zusammen mit JBL eine kleine Samstagnachmittag-Expedition zu verschiedenen Fanggründen auf der rheinlandpfälzischen Seite des Rheins, da dort das Fangen von Futtertieren laut Landesfischereigesetz (§31) nicht an einen Fischereischein gekoppelt ist. Neben großen Mengen schwarzen und wenigen weißen Mückenlarven gingen viele Wasserflöhe sowie Hüpferlinge in die JBL Fangnetze. In einem überfluteten Wald wurden dann die seltenen Süßwasser-Artemien gefunden! Mit Hilfe des JBL ProScan Wassertests wurden die Wasserwerte direkt vor Ort ermittelt: Nitrit & Nitrat nicht nachweisbar, obwohl enorme Laubmengen im Wasser vorhanden waren! Gesamt- und Karbonathärte lagen bei 4 °dH bei einem pH-Wert von 6,8. Die etwa 2 cm großen Kiemenfußkrebse waren so putzig, dass sie nicht mit den Mückenlarven an die Aquarienfische zu Hause verfüttert, sondern in einem kleinen Aquarium weiter gepflegt werden. Mit etwas JBL Artemio-Flüssigalgenfutter ist die Pflege recht einfach.

The south west group of the International Rainbow Fish Association and JBL initiated a little Saturday afternoon expedition to the various fishing grounds on the Rhineland-Palatinate side of the Rhine, since catching feeder animals there is, according to the provincial law on fisheries (§31), not dependant on having a fishing license. Along with large amounts of black and a few white mosquito larvae a lot of water fleas and cyclops were caught in the JBL nets. Then, in a flooded forest, we found our rare freshwater artemia! With the help of the JBL ProScan water tests the water values were determined immediately on-site: nitrite and nitrate were undetectable, although enormous amounts of leaves were present! General hardness and carbonate hardness were at 4 °dH with a pH value of 6.8. The about 2 cm large Branchiopoda were so cute that we don’t plan to feed them to the aquarium fish, as we will with the mosquito larvae. Instead we’ll keep them in a small aquarium. With a bit of liquid algae food looking after them will be easy.

In der jüngsten Vergangenheit wurden unterschiedliche physikalische und chemische Sensoren entwickelt. Piezoresistive Drucksensoren sind während der Entwurfsphase an den von der Anwendung geforderten Druckbereich anpassbar und können auch in Hochtemperatur-Umgebungen eingesetzt werden. Photodioden-Arrays kommen in Positionsmesssystemen zum Einsatz; ionensensitive Feldeffekttransistoren bestimmen u. a. den pH-Wert von Flüssigkeiten. Für diese Sensoren bieten wir nicht nur kunden- und anwendungspezifische Entwicklungsleistungen, sondern auch Pilotfertigung in unserem Mikrosystemtechnik-Reinraum an.

Recently, we developed diverse physical and chemical sensors. Piezoresistive pressure sensors are adaptable to the pressure range needed by the application during the design phase. They can also be used in high-temperature environments. Photodiode arrays are applied in positioning systems, ion-sensitive field-effect transistors measure the pH levels in liquids. For these sensors we offer not only customer and application specific developments but also pilot fabrication in our clean room for microsystems.
