The University of Fine Arts in Belgrade consists of four faculties: music, visual arts, design, and dramatic arts. The interdisciplinary postgraduate program combines these areas. The theoretical section of the program is made up of seminars dealing with art and media theory, philosophy and aesthetics, cultural studies and analysis, communications, and art history. Emphasis is attached to the interdisciplinary nature and cross-media complexity of these fields. A doctorate program in art and media studies was set up in 2003. The students are given as much freedom as possible to explore their own creativity, and this includes the possibility of attaining their doctorate without needing to complete their masters. The program has received international recognition and been integrated into the TEMPUS program.

Originally seen as a sub-discipline of philosophy, aesthetics today moves freely across disciplinary boundaries. Since the DGÄ was founded in 1993, the academic landscape of subjects has changed considerably. Aesthetics is now a relevant part of teaching in art schools as well as in art, design, cultural and media studies and interdisciplinary projects. According to Juliane Rebentisch, the president of the DGÄ and a professor of philosophy and aesthetics at the HfG Offenbach, this interdisciplinary view of aesthetics brings a new impetus to the discourse.

Das Institut für Psychologie der Universität Würzburg wurde bereits 1896 von Oswald Külpe begründet, der zwei Jahre zuvor den Ruf auf eine Professur für Philosophie und Ästhetik angenommen hatte. In den Aufbaujahren wurde er maßgeblich von Karl Marbe unterstützt, der aus Freundschaft zu Külpe von der Universität Bonn nach Würzburg gewechselt war, sich hier habilitierte und als Privatdozent eigenständig wirkte.

The institute for psychology of the University of Würzburg was founded by Oswald Külpe in 1896, two years after he had accepted a call for a professorship in philosophy and aesthetics. During the founding years he was supported to a great extent by Karl Marbe who moved from the University of Bonn to Wuerzburg due to his friendship with Külpe. In Wuerzburg he qualified as professor and became a private docent. It was Marbe, together with his doctoral students August Mayer and Johannes Orth, who initiated and published the first experiments in Denkpsychologie (psychology of thought) which later became famous as part of the Wuerzburg School. When Marbe accepted a call from the Academy of Commercial and Social Sciences in Frankfurt in 1905 (where he later established the still remaining psychological institute of the University of Frankfurt) Külpe proceeded his studies on the psychology of thinking together with his assistant Karl Bühler. An open dispute between young Bühler and the 75-years old Wilhelm Wundt caused a rising publicity of the Wuerzburg School – a term that was used for the first time by Albert Michotte in 1907. However, the term was not set to the school’s location and was broadcasted by Külpe even after his appointment to the University of Bonn in 1909. This also explains why Otto Selz counts to the Wuerzburg School although he had never worked at Wuerzburg University. Next to Karl Bühler and Otto Selz, several important psychologists had been practicing in Würzburg, such as Narziß Ach, Kurt Koffka, Max Wertheimer, Henry Jackson Watt, Richard Pauli, Albert Michotte and even Charles Spearman.
