PARAGUAY, Fr. Antonio Cosp, National Movement Director• Maria Fischer visited the Schoenstatt Movement in Paraguay as part of her holidays. She visited four diocese in 15 days: Encarnación, Ciudad del Este, Asunción and S. Lorenzo. She also went on pilgrimage to three shrines. She experienced a typical Paraguayan Holy Week in Tupãrenda. A hotel with an unconventional concept and an inspiring history that is operated to professional standards—this is how the most recent project of AllesWirdGut Architects, initiated by magdas, the social business subsidiary of Caritas Austria, can be described, the magdas Hotel in Vienna’s Prater district. 78 new and elegant hotel rooms are available to city travelers, tourists in Vienna and overnight trippers, each with a view of the Prater park landscape. Living side by side with the hotel guests are - and this is what makes the project so special - young people who, however, did not travel of their own free will, but are refugees who were left no choice by hunger, war, persecution, and torture in their home countries. The hotel accommodates two residential units for living communities. Supported by the Caritas, 25 young persons who came to Austria without their parents as refugees have been living here already since November 2014. For them, the hotel is a temporary place to stay, and for some, it is also a workplace. This is because most of the staff working at the social value added hotel are refugees. “magdas Hotel is a social business that connects cultures and people, that creates opportunities and a lively place of encounter,” says Caritas Social Business manager Clemens Foschi about the project.

On Saturday, May 30 the ship was opened for a guided tour including the gallery with photographs and paintings by Czech and German artists. Additionally, poetry slammer Jaromir Konecny performed a reading. Afterwards, a public panel discussion took place on the ship with three of the candidates for the upcoming mayor elections facing the questions of the audience about the diverse problem areas in the “globally open-minded city of the creative” (which is the city’s marketing motto for this year’s theme campaign). In the evening, the Netzwerk Kultur Dresden and Wir Gestalten Dresden (WGD, the inter-trade organisation of the local creative industry) invited to their annual reception on the “swimming cultural centre”, where representatives of several cultural institutions of Dresden could have a conversation with each other and discuss possible future co-operations. The artistic framework consisted of music by the band Downbeatclub and by the Jindrich-Staidel-Combo and a dance performance by the JuWie Dance Company and then again in the evening all party sailors were welcomed aboard for the second great Opening Party, this time with the band radiophon and the DJs Doran Toudesco and Loiko Zobar.
