He rented a studio on Oranienstrasse in the Kreuzberg section of Berlin. He had an incredible amount of space, by New York standards, for his experiments. Due to the low rents, he says, people are not under as much pressure to have immediate financial success. What else has changed? “The Disney-like element in my work is gone,” he says.

Herr Václav Holoubek, der für Minerva (Vorgänger des Unternehmens ARAKO) ausgebildet wurde, kam in das Werk im Jahre 1959 und verbrachte hier sein ganzes Leben, erzählte: „Am Montag begann das Hochwasser. In einigen Stunden erreichte das Wasser zwei Meter Höhe und die ganze Produktion lag plötzlich unter Wasser. Manche Arbeitnehmer in den Büros im Obergeschoss haben es sogar nicht geschafft, das Gebäude zu verlassen, und mussten in der Arbeit übernachten. Wir konnten in das Werk erst am Mittwoch kommen, wo ich als erster die Tür der Produktion aufmachte. Es war schrecklich – überall Schlamm, überflutete Maschinenmotoren! Wir begannen rasch aufzuräumen, alle Arbeitnehmer haben dort geholfen, wo es nötig war. Obwohl die Erneuerung der Produktion nicht sicher war, dank der Teamarbeit und dem gemeinsamen Ziel ist es uns gelungen. Es wurde eine nagelneue Halle gebaut und schließlich hat die Produktion in einem modernen Unternehmen ARAKO gestartet.“

The flood was widely discussed during the meeting of now retired employees last year. Mr. Václav Holoubek, back then undertaking apprenticeship at Minerva ( ARAKO predecessor) later started working at the company in 1959 and dedicated all of his life to his work career there, said: „ Flooding started making its way on Monday when in several hours water reached as high as two meters and flooded the entire workshop area. Some of the office workers based on the first floor didn‘t manage to escape on time so they had to stay in factory overnight.“ „We didn’t get into factory until Wednesday when I was the first one to open the workshop door to let us in.” “It was terrible – all machine engines got flooded and majority of premises were covered in mud! We rushed ourselves into cleaning and all employees did their best to help wherever was needed. Although the manufacture future was uncertain, thanks to the team work and firmly set goals, we managed to succeed restoring the premises and with brand new workshop being built with renewed activities on their way up, the new modern ARAKO company restarted its business.
