“In the Nano Argovia project CerInk, we showed that we can produce bone replacement materials that closely resemble natural bone,” says Andrea Testino, the project leader. “In our tests, we were able to produce synthetic bone whose properties correspond to the spongy trabecular structure of bone on one hand and the more-stable cortical structure of bone on the other.” Philipp Gruner, CEO of the industrial partner, Medicoat, also considers the completed Nano Argovia project a success: “Thanks to our project partners’ expertise in this outstanding collaboration, we are in a position to break new ground and develop truly innovative products and technologies for the benefit of patients.”

Steigende Patentanmeldungen und eine große Forschungsdynamik schüren Prognosen für ein zukünftig rasant wachsendes Marktvolumen. "Der Einfluss der Regenerativen Medizin wird sowohl auf die Pharmaindustrie wie auch auf die Medizintechnik in drei bis fünf Jahren deutlich Fahrt aufnehmen", erklärt Schlotter. Als wünschenswerte Lösungen haben regenerative Maßnahmen immer Vorrang vor körperfremden bzw. künstlichen Lösungen. "So patentieren wir herausragende Erfindungen in diesem Bereich, auch wenn durch den langen Zeithorizont unsere Investitionen in die Patentierungskosten sehr hoch sind", bemerkt Schlotter. Zu den aktuell betreuten Erfindungen des TLB zählt unter anderem ein neuartiges Bandscheibenimplantat. Die Erfindung zielt darauf ab, direkt mit dem Eingriff die biomechanische Stabilität wiederherzustellen. Zugleich soll der Bandscheibenring abgedichtet werden, um einen erneuten Bandscheibenvorfall zu vermeiden.
