Sure, major language difficulties did arise, but I was touched at how friendly and welcoming the employees were. Not only were they real experts in showing me around and explaining what I had to do, they also included me in after-work activities. Parallel to the work itself, I learned a lot about the Turkish culture and way of life. And I could not get enough of the scenery – the Bosporus is breathtakingly beautiful. Overall, this internship gave me fresh insight into how a company outside Germany works. These four weeks were a very happy time for me, and I will always associate this internship with many wonderful experiences.

Ptiluc (real name Luc Lefevre) was born in 1956 in Mons in the Walloon region of Belgium. He had hardly begun to read before he was producing his own comics. From the age of seven he began creating and “publishing” his own graphic stories – just one copy of each. However, his decision to become a professional artist was still a long way off. First, in line with his parents’ wishes, came his scientific studies at university, parallel to which he continued to produce mini comics anthologies, whose success on the campus gave the author confidence in his abilities. After turning twenty, Ptiluc said goodbye to the faculty and headed off to a major Brussels publishing house with his portfolio. Alas, no one there was ready for him. The young author would have to wait seven more years before publishers began to appreciate his work. He didn’t let this time go to waste: he created cheesy caption strips and posters for parties, drew caricatures in the local press and illustrated brochures for scouts and bikers. In his spare time he continued to create anthologies, which as before failed to inspire the right people. In Brussels, publishers advised him to go to Paris “where they are able to judge stories like these on their merit”, and in Paris they recommended that he seek satisfaction in Brussels. And so it was - until the moment that Andre Franken, well-known creator of that charming antihero Gaston Lagaffe, used his indisputable authority to convince publishing house Hatier to look closer at his protégé. Before long Ptiluc’s first collection of comics from his Pacush Blues series was released by the newly created subdivision Hatier Vents d’Ouest. As the artist’s work had been piling up for some time, his next three collections appeared within the space of one month. Their success induced the editor at Vents d’Ouest to get in touch with Paris. It is here that Ptiluc has continued to think up his graphic fables, in which we find rats (Faces de rats), primates (Ni Dieu ni bête), piglets (La Foire aux cochons) and other animal subjects, whose traits and actions remind us of our own human nature.

With those chemical agents the US army wanted to get rid of the jungle foliage, to make it easier for the pilots of the bombing squadrons to detect Vietcong soldiers on the ground. In Vietnam today, misshapen and ill children are still frequently being born, and still they are not recognized as war victims.

With the help of the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility, structural analyses can be carried out on rocks even if they do not show any macroscopic structural characteristics. The magnetic texture of a rock is not only determined by the form and crystal structure of the magnetic grains, but also by the arrangement of magnetic domains within ferromagnetic grains. This kind of alignment is directly influenced by geological stress. We were able to prove a clear link between the magnetic structure of rock and the direction of movement along the fault in the area of fault zones. New developments in equipment enable the analysis of magnetic textures which could not be measured previously. These include the structures of virtually non-magnetic rocks (limestone, dolomite, marble) and the detection of minor structural anisotropies due to deformation.

We were once again able to grow our turnover in 2017. Consolidated turnover increased to €13 million in 2017, while the number of employees at the St. Georgen location rose to 86, to 12 at the Hanover site and to 83 at our subsidiary in Suzhou, China. New technologies such as Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) have contributed significantly to our growth. M&M Software combines the knowledge of new technologies such as Cloud and IoT with the industry know-how of industrial automation. More and more customers rely on us for development partnerships. Thus, the traditional business, the consulting and software development services were expanded with existing and new customers. At the end of the year, we introduced an augmented reality solution developed in collaboration with a client. This Augmented Reality solution is software that virtually augments reality with contextual information using Microsoft's HoloLense smartglasses. Specifically, software-driven instructions for complex assembly steps were implemented in the application. After the positive annual results for 2017, we set ambitious targets for 2018. An increase of around 15% of consolidated sales to 15 million is targeted. For this purpose, 12 employees will be recruited at the site in St. Georgen, 4 in Hanover and 10 in Suzhou. However, the employee search is the biggest challenge in the new year. Our service portfolio is correct, the customers are there, only employees are missing.
