While nectar is a sweet reward that makes pollinators fly from flower to flower, floral scent is an attractant that advertizes the presence of this reward. The assessment of the experimental data revealed that both scent and nectar make sure that flowers are visited by pollinators more often than plants that lack these traits.

On photographing bumblebees their activities should be observed to start with: what kind of flowers they visit, their behaviour on the flower, how they move from flower to flower. It is important to try to predict their movements a little ahead, and so be able to position and pre-focus the camera on the spot where the bumblebee is likely to arrive. It is the most efficient way of catching a moving object in the frame. Whether to use manual focus or autofocus depends on the camera and the lens.

Bees are very important as pollinators of many wild and cultivated plants. They fly from flower to flower collecting nectar and pollen and paying no attention to field boundaries. If genetically modified Bt maize is grown, bees will come into contact with the Bt toxin via the pollen. Are they harmed as a result? Swiss scientists have been investigating whether Bt maize is harmful to honey-bees in a number of experiments.

Der Duft der Blumen lockt Opa Vinzenz‘ Bienen an. Sie fliegen

The farm puts our guests in high spirits. The meadows bloom in all their glory. The scent of the flowers lures in Grandpa Vinzenz’s bees. They fly from blossom to blossom to suck the nectar from the flower head, which will then be turned into honey. Once the grass has grown in the meadows, Farmer Herbert fires up his mower: it’s time for the grass to be cut for the first time in the year. This also known as the “heu”. The cut grass is left in the meadows and turned twice to dry it out. After two days, it is brought into the barn and aerated with warm air. Plenty of manual labour is required as the meadows are steep in places and there is always a number of things to do in the barn.

Corn salad’s year begins in the autumn, when the seeds germinate and quickly develop small over-wintering leaf rosettes. The following spring the development happens so fast that the flower blooms already in May. Its small, light blue flowers are mainly self-pollinating, but sometimes insects visit their minimal nectar store too and at the same time deliver pollen from one flower to another. The fruits ripen at the beginning of high summer and float to new habitats with the aid of an air pocket.

How is it that players can jump from casino to casino like a noble honey bee going from flower to flower, without getting totally confused with regards to what is being offered? By jumping from casino to another casino players are actually negatively impacting their chances of winning. Casino relies on algorithms which determines as to when a certain slot machine can pay out. They however have zero control over the software which determines when the payout will take place.

Soon, the gardens and fields will be blooming, fragrant and buzzing again. Bees, flies and beetles fly, as they have done for millions of years, from flower to flower in search of food or mates, drawn by flower shapes, colors and the scents of the individual plants. Often, pollinating insects favor certain scents and preferentially visit the flowers in question. Previously, researchers always assumed that floral scents and the fondness of pollinating insects for a specific scent evolved mutually via coevolution of plants and insects. However, the evolutionary biologist Florian Schiestl from the University of Zurich now proves that this was not the case with the arum family and their pollinators.
