On 19 December 1967 the heirs of Konrad Adenauer, his seven sons and daughters, entered into a contract with the Federal Republic of Germany, thereby transferring the Chancellor's property at Rhöndorf to the Federal Government. This created the pre-requisites for setting up the fund called the "Stiftung Bundeskanzler-Adenauer-Haus". Sustaining the memory of the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, who shaped this free democratic state based on the rule of law is not an end in itself. It is the primary concern of the fund to communicate the varied history of the Germans, from the time of the Kaiser's empire to the last third of the last century and hence create understanding for the political principles and social order of our polity. The Stiftung meets this goal primarily by presenting constant exhibitions as well as opening up the residence and garden for public visits. The "Adenauer-Haus" in Rhöndorf, a locality in Bad Honnef, is one of the most visited sights in the Bonn region. It is surrounded by a magnificent garden full of trees, bushes and flowers, wells and stone figures. Adenauer loved roses.
