Die Zelle hat für den Proteintransport ein eigenes Transportsystem entwickelt: Zu befördernde Proteine werden samt Membran von besonderen Strukturproteinen umhüllt, „etikettiert“ und schließlich an die gewünschte Adresse gebracht. „Wie ein Päckchen, das versendet wird“, zieht Erika Isono einen Vergleich und führt aus: „Auf ein Post-Päckchen muss eine Empfängeradresse geschrieben werden. The development of the product was yet again participated by consumers, this time both males and females, resulting in a beverage that combines the flavour and refreshing aroma of elderflower in a balanced way, at the same time not suppressing the distinct beer character and bitterness. Consumers accepted the original elderflower flavour very well despite it being quite unusual in Czech as well as European circumstances. According to a survey carried out by the IPSOS agency in June, 64% consumers evaluated the flavour of “PardálOVO bezové“ as positive. Amongst others, the survey participants sent the following messages to the producer: “great flavour, natural, no chemical preserving agents or artificial colourings”; “the elderflower drink really came off well”; “great choice of flavour - original” etc.

An extraordinary solution was found for achieving sufficient heat despite the low heating warmth requirement of maximum 15 kWh/m² specified in the passive house regulations. The building owner teaches computer science at TU Dresden and, together with his colleague Dr. Jens Struckmeier, has developed a concept that heats passive houses with servers installed in decentralised locations. A special housing unit was additionally developed which fulfils the safety requirements for the installation of servers with respect to fire protection and access control. Instead of a conventional heating solution, this enclosure is integrated directly into the heating system of the passive house. A stratified storage unit is used to discharge the waste heat to a buffer storage unit, from which it is then distributed throughout the building as needed. The integration has been energy-optimised and eliminates conduction losses, all without any additional reliance on heat pumps or other technical auxiliary energy systems.

Synthetic, noncanonical amino acids can be used in place of canonical amino acids to improve the biophysical properties of proteins. Noncanonical amino acids differ from the 20 canonical amino acids in that their codons are allocated to encode an amino acid which is not among the 20 standard amino acids occurring in DNA and RNA. The artificial expansion of the genetic code also enables the incorporation of noncanonical amino acids into proteins through ribosomes in which case a special transfer RNA (tRNA) in the ribosome replaces the stop codon of the mRNA with an unnatural amino acid. The respective aminoacyl tRNA synthetase enzyme attaches the noncanonical amino acid to the tRNA, which then acts as adapter molecule and guides the amino acid to the correct site (a stop codon). Moritz Schmidt also uses this method for the evolution of proteins with specific functions. “During translation, a non-natural amino acid is incorporated into the protein in place of a stop codon,” Schmidt explains.
