Rinne an pobal Gaelach beart stairiúil an tseachtain seo caite nuair a reachtáil siad an chéad scoil cheoil chomhaimseartha, éascaithe ag POBAL i gColáiste Feirste. D’fhreastail cainteoirí Gaeilge óga ó réimse scoileanna an chéad ‘Cuisle an Cheoil’ agus d’fhoghlaim siad réimse scileanna ó mhúinteoirí a bhfuil taithí ceoil nach beag acu.
History was made for the Irish language community last week as the first Gaelic contemporary music school was held by POBAL in Coláiste Feirste. Irish speaking youth from a range of second level schools attended the first ever ‘Cuisle an Cheoil’, learning a range of skills from experienced tutors. The school, funded by Belfast City Council, offered tuition from master musicians as well as workshops each day on the skills needed to build a career in the music industry. The pupils then had an opportunity to practice their musical skills under the watchful eye of ‘Bréag’ front-man Caoimhín Mac Giolla Catháin. Caoimhín not only helped them work together as groups but also offered valuable tips on how to perform in front of an audience.

Ní smaoiníonn cainteoirí dúchais teanga ar pharadaímí (rud a chuireann ionadh go minic ar chainteoirí nach cainteoirí dúchais iad). Ach uirlis úsáideach is ea paradaímí le cur síos ar theanga agus le teanga a fhoghlaim.
Native speakers of a language don't think in terms of paradigms (often to the surprise of non-native speakers). But paradigms are a useful tool in language description and language learning. A convenient way to refer to all of the grammatical forms of a word is lexeme (or lexical word). The four Esperanto words in the paradigm above all belong to the same lexeme nomo.

Dúirt an Príomhfheidhmeannach, “Is fiú aitheantas a thabhairt inniu do dhíograis daoine atá ag coinneáil an Ghaeilge beo sa Ghaeltacht. Tá a rian sin le feiceáil inniu, go háirithe i bpobail a bhfuil an líon cainteoirí Gaeilge íseal iontu. Níl tomhas ar an díograis sin agus leanfaidh an obair le pobal na Gaeltachta le todhchaí na teanga sa Ghaeltacht a chinntiú.”
He said, “The fact is that there are still many people in the Gaeltacht whose first and everyday language is Irish. Language planning is a complex process, and will only be successful with the community, the public sector and the private sector, all working together to support the promotion and usage of the Irish language in the Gaeltacht.”

Is féidir liom bheith ag caidreamh le daoine le méid áirithe líofachta agus toiliúlachta a chuireann ar mo chumas bheith ag caidreamh go rialta le cainteoirí dúchais. Is féidir liom páirt ghníomhach a ghlacadh i gcomhrá i gcomhthéacsanna aithnidiúla, agus mo thuairimí a leagan amach agus a chosaint.
I can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible. I can take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining my views.
