Sorley MacLean first made the acquaintance of Robert Garioch, the poet, when he was an undergraduate in the University of Edinburgh. Robert Garioch Sutherland, who wrote under the name Robert Garioch, was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh, and the University of Edinburgh.
