Il Museo del Minatore, sito nei locali dell'ex caserma dei carabinieri di Piazza San Giovanni, contiene documenti, testimonianze, attrezzi di lavoro e cimeli raccolti a partire dalla seconda metà degli anni '40 da Lucio Parrotto, autore e direttore del museo, ex minatore casaranese che per oltre un trentennio ha lavorato nelle miniere del Belgio.Il museo rappresenta una risorsa unica e fondamentale per ricostruire la storia di un'attività, quella dell'estrazione mineraria, su cui si è basata parte della ricostruzione italiana postbellica.

The museum of the miners, located in the former barracks of the carabinieri in Piazza San Giovanni, contains documents, information, tools and curios collected, beginning in the second half of the forties, by Lucio Parrotto, author and director of the museum, ex-miner from Casarano, who worked in the mines in Belgium for more than thirty years. The museum is a unique and essential resource for reconstructing the history of an activity, like mining, that was the foundation of part of Italian post-war rebuilding. The museum tells, in even the smallest detail, some of the story of Casarano and Salento, which is also the story of work and of emigration, through newspapers articles, period photographs, tools, shovels, picks, pneumatic hammers, explosives, props, lamps, helmets and even a trolley for transporting coal.
