From the first encounter of the Centre and its impressive prison building, Daniel Fink, a lecturer on prison history at the University of Lausanne, developed the idea of an exhibition on the subject, accompanied by an international conference on prisons: history, culture, photography. Together with the Director of the Centre, Bernardino Castro, and professor Cândido da Agra, University of Porto, he initiated the activities of the organizing committee.

Le Centro Português de Fotografia CPF est la place idéale pour présenter une exposition de photographies contemporaines et historiques sur la prison. Dès sa première visite à l’impressionnant bâtiment, Daniel Fink, chargé de cours sur Crime, justice et prison en Suisse, à l’Université de Lausanne, développait l’idée d’une exposition sur le sujet, accompagnée d’une conférence internationale sur les prisons avec comme sous-thèmes : histoire, culture, photographie.
