Momenteel zijn er nog twee Nederlandse missionarissen werkzaam in deze CMM provincie, maar de meeste fraters in Indonesië komen hier zelf ook vandaan. In het postulaat en noviciaat wonen ook jonge fraters uit Oost-Timor: zij krijgen hier hun religieuze vorming.

Around 120 people came to see the presentations. The evening began with the beautiful film about Frater Andreas, made by, among others, Mr. Ad Donkers (Stichting Videogroep Udenhout). Mr. Kees van Kempen, one of the authors of the biography, then spoke about the origin and content of his book, and he also told about how he was personally touched during the process of research and writing. Indeed, Brother Andreas is still an inspiring person today. Three first copies were presented to Pastor Godfried Looijaard, Brother Lawrence Obiko, Superior General of the Brothers CMM, and to Mrs. van Mensvoort – Van der Pas, granddaughter of Brother Andreas’ sister. This meeting around Brother Andreas was an impressive event for Udenhout and also for the congregation of Brothers CMM.

Brother Linus Schoutsen has been working in the prison apostolate since 1998. Currently he is the coordinator of the Father Grol’s Welfare Trust. This foundation works with the Kenya Prison Service organization. Brother Linus, a missionary with Dutch roots, is a fervent advocate of the rights of prisoners. His team mobilizes funds and resources that enable them to provide education to a number of prisoners, but they also provide recreational provisions, books, magazines, glasses, volleyball, football, tools, clothing, shoes, medicine, and guidance. These facilities brought a different atmosphere to some Kenyan prisons. The ideal is that all prisons receive a learning program. To achieve this, the foundation launched a program for adult education in Kenyan prisons in 2000.

On Sunday, 6 August 2017, the annual Brother Andreas pilgrimage took place at the Generalate of the Brothers CMM. Bishop Gerard de Korte, bishop of the Diocese of ’s-Hertogenbosch, presided at a solemn Eucharistic celebration and sketched for the 160 persons who were in attendance a very warm, recognizable and positive image of Brother Andreas. The well-taken care of celebration was embellished by the singing of the Brother Andreas Mass. This Mass was composed by Paul Overman who played the organ and was accompanied by Thomas Van Geelen on cello. Brother Broer Huitema conducted the choir of the brothers which was enriched by five brothers from Indonesia, Kenya and Namibia.

Bisschop Gerard de Korte, de bisschop van het diocees ’s-Hertogenbosch, ging voor in een plechtige Eucharistieviering en wist voor de 160 aanwezigen een heel warm, herkenbaar en positief beeld van frater Andreas te schetsen. De viering werd opgeluisterd door het zingen van de frater Andreasmis. Deze mis is door Paul Overman gecomponeerd. Hij speelde op het orgel en werd begeleid door Thomas van Geelen op cello. Frater Broer Huitema dirigeerde het fraterskoor, versterkt door 5 fraters uit Indonesië, Kenia en Namibië.

Visi dari Uskup Zwijsen terbentang jauh ke depan yang ternyata sangat berguna ketika ia  mendirikan kongregasi suster dan frater mau pun ketika memulai ekspansi. Ia sungguh mengikuti model asal perancis; suster dan frater saudara dari St. Vinsensius de Paul.

Bishop Zwijsen’s vision stretched out beyond borders, which turned out to be very useful indeed when he was working on the foundation and expansion of his sister and brother congregations. He followed the model that originally came from France, the sister and brother confraternities of Vincent de Paul. He made sure he obtained the right information regarding the most recent religious developments in Flanders, especially concerning the Brothers of Charity in Gent and the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Louvain. Thus, the ideas which he made concrete in Tilburg were going beyond the local vision and followed a European trend.

A visão do bispo Dom Zwijsen se estendeu além das fronteiras, o que acabou por ser de grande utilidade quando trabalhava na base e na expansão das congregações das irmãs e dos fráteres. Ele seguiu o modelo que originalmente veio da França, confrarias das irmãs e irmãos de São Vicente de Paulo. The international spreading of brothers is the result of a combination of historical factors and invitations received by the congregation. In countries such as Indonesia and Kenya, the congregation has really taken root, in other countries it proved to be more difficult. The internationalization of the congregation was not always a success story. The first missionaries had to work very hard and deal with many setbacks in order to establish schools and communities in foreign countries. In the beginning, it was probably also underestimated what it meant to introduce religious life to another culture: the brothers realized that it was not possible to copy the exact the same way of living as in the motherland. The first noviciates with young people in these countries failed. The mission demanded much more preparation than the brothers had realized; in order to integrate well in the local culture, a vast knowledge of the country, a good knowledge of the language and a feeling of connectedness with the local culture was required. It took more than a generation before the brothers finally found a way of life that fitted in the local culture.

A divulgação internacional dos fráteres é o resultado de uma combinação de fatores históricos e convites recebidos pela congregação. Em países como a Indonésia e o Quênia, a congregação realmente se enraizou, contudo, em outros países, mostrou ser mais difícil. A internacionalização da congregação nem sempre foi uma história de sucesso. Os primeiros missionários tiveram que trabalhar muito e lidar com muitos contratempos para estabelecer escolas e comunidades em países estrangeiros. No início, provavelmente, foi ainda subestimado o que significava apresentar a vida religiosa para outra cultura: os fráteres perceberam que não era possível copiar exatamente o mesmo modo de viver como na terra natal. Os primeiros noviciados com jovens nesses países fracassaram. A missão exigiu muito mais preparação do que os fráteres tinham percebido; de modo a integrar-se bem na cultura local, foram necessários um vasto conhecimento do país, um bom conhecimento da língua e um sentimento de conexão com a cultura local. Levou mais de uma geração para que os fráteres finalmente encontrassem um modo de vida que se encaixasse na cultura local.
