The Commission welcomes the adoption on 22 April by the Council of a revised Directive on European Works Councils (EWCs), following a first reading agreement with the European Parliament. This new legislation will strengthen EWCs to better inform and consult workers during restructuring – particularly important in the current economic climate. Access related documents.

The forum will be the last opportunity for Member States and regions to make their voices heard before the Commission presents its legislative proposals on the future cohesion policy, due out by summer 2011. The Forum will also constitute of the public consultation on the policy proposals of the Fifth Report on Economic, Social and Territorial cohesion which was adopted by the Commission on 9 November 2010.
