L’administration chez les espèces reptiliennes et amphibiennes, y compris les chéloniens, capables de retenir leur souffle et d’opter pour un métabolisme anaérobie est inacceptable, car ces animaux peuvent survivre à de longues périodes d’anoxie (Brannian et coll., 1987; Calderwood, 1971; Jackson et Cooper, 1981; Johlin et Moreland, 1933; Close et coll., 1996, Close et coll., 1997), soit jusqu’à 27 heures chez certaines espèces; il est possible qu’après une exposition prolongée par inhalation, les animaux appartenant à ces espèces ne meurent pas.
